Wow! I just received my Barcelona fedora and, lo and behold, she sent me two for the price of one! Not too shabby for $15! The blue one is the one I bought. It is in beautiful shape and I love it. The brown they threw in - not in as great shape - but what the heck. Fun stuff! Still waiting for my Stetson!!! View attachment 225097
I think I paid $75 for my Barcelona in pristine condition and I considered it a decent buy at the time...maybe 10 years ago. That blue one looks nice....a good fun, casual hat.

This is kind of what I'm looking for.

Just an off hand observation on the photo. The vintage Rolex he is wearing is likely worth north of 10K even with the modern leather band down playing what he is wearing. Like the watch the hat is vintage chic. I like the look, both the hat and the watch are "well worn". Watch is easily over 40 years old. Hat is likely the same and should be easy to find in a local thrift shop or at a higher price, a vintage shop. Ebay :)

I recently purchased a Stetson fedora - brown, about 2" brim, but I am trying to identify the model. The band is black, identifying mark is Royal Stetson (I know - not that much to go on). I did find inside the band a tag that is 12-917-TF074582 7 1/2 R. Obviously it is a 7 1/2 size for my oversized coconut, but I was wondering if the other number have anything to do with color, model, date, etc. My first post, but not my first hat. Thanks in advance.

Photos may help; photos of the liner, sweatband markings, and the entire hat. Even after that, there are many models that are impossible to identify so don’t get your hopes up.

Looks a lot like a Saxon to me. It’s a fairly recent hat in any case. Without additional information such as the box, a paper label with the model name tucked under the sweatband, a receipt, etc. you may never definitely identify this hat. Stetson didn’t mark the sweatbands or liners with model names on a lot of these hats and they made/make a lot that look very similar to your hat.

I Purchased this Fedora at an estate sale.My question is, It says Borsalini inside the hat not Borsalino ,so I am confused because when I try to do a search and type in Borsalini It doesn't come up. I keep getting Borsalino.

Hello gentlemen,

I hope it is okay to ask this question with a new thread, I'm still rather new to the forum.

I recently watched the movie Hostiles starring Christian Bale, Wes Studi, Rory Cochrane, etc., and I really like the hats that those guys are wearing — Rory Cochrane’s brown hat in particular. See photo attached.

I want to find a hat that is as close as possible to this. It looks almost like an Indiana Jones kind of Fedora / adventurer hat, but it seems to me that the brim is wider. That might just be a matter of perspective – opinions, anyone? I am particularly fond of the high crown, wide brim largeness of the thing, so that's important. Also, I am looking for the hat to be heavily weather resistant, to wear in rain and sun and snow, preferably in the realm of an Akubra.

Akubra Fed IV? Adventurer maybe? They seem close but not quite what I am looking for. Any opinions are appreciated.

Best regards!

Well, I like your taste in hats. I haven’t seen the movie, but that hat does look nice.

From your photos, that’s more hat than what you’ll get from a Fed IV or similar. You could contact a quality hatter and have them duplicate the hat. Custom hats are a great option; however, I think you could find a used donor western hat and reshape it pretty easily. Swap out the ribbon and you’ll be there.

Thanks for your reply! I totally agree in terms of the Fed IV – but looking at some photos of the Adventurer model, it seems quite close. I thought maybe the different sized hat band gives the illusion of a different sized hat. So maybe the Adventurer with a smaller hat band looks larger? Hard to tell.

I guess you're right about contacting a hatter or reshaping another hat.

Cheers!
