Looking for a Web Designer/ Graphic Designer

Well I'm working on my clothing line and I'm looking for someone to put together a nice website for it. I came here to look first because it's a vintage reproduction clothing site and I don't want to explain what I like is to someone that has no idea what I'll be jabbering about.

If any of you are interested please let me know. I've made a logo and all and have made a temporary site... But it's not working for me.

If you are a designer, you will want to design it yourself...

This might not be what you think you want to hear, but this is the voice of fellow lounger telling you what you need to know.

The first thing to do is to let go of your fear that creating a website is too hard for you to learn. Or that it is going to take too much time or be beyond your ability.

Creating a website is a task with a difficulty level somewhere between making a plate of brownies from a box of brownie mix and learning how to do a crossword puzzle.

First thing to do is to go to a big bookstore and find the shelf with the HTML primers and take all of them down from the shelf. Then pick a chapter that sounds interesting and read that same chapter in each of the books and purchase the book in which the selected chapter is the easiest for you to follow. This book should have a disk in the back with some exercises and a tutorial.

Then spend an hour a night for a week or two going through the book - half an hour reading and half an hour doing the tutorial on your computer.

This is no big deal and can be accomplished by any rational individual with a minimal amount of perseverance.

Also start making a list of dot.com names that you would like to use. Keep it short and memorable and be open to .net or other domain name extensions. You will need a list of names when you go domain name shopping because it is unlikely that your first few choices will be available.

When you get through the tutorials, Google "low cost web providers" and see who's currently offering the best deals on setting up your own web site. The price keeps dropping, but it looks like one can now get one's own web site for under four bucks a month.

Then Google "free CSS web site templates" and be dazzled by what appears. You download a few of these and play around with them off line, inserting your content and select one that suits your taste and style. This will enable you to put up a really hot looking, state of the art website by just filling in the blanks.

Remember to include a link back to the author of the free web page template.

You will find that your web page provider also offers a ton of free or low cost web design templates, but they tend to look too cut-and-dried for my taste. They tend to be OK for an attorney's web site, but less so for a designer's.

Then FTP your web page to your web host with an FTP program like Filezilla.

Then you Google "how to draw traffic to my web site" and add META tags to your web site code.

Then Google "how to register a web site with search engines" and register your site with Google and the major search engines. Also use one of the sites that enable you to be listed with all the secondary search engines.

That's all you have to do and it does not take all that much effort.

The best thing about CSS (and by all means read as much about it as you can) is that as a designer, you can completely change the look of your site whenever you please by simply changing the CSS Attribute file. It know this sounds complicated, but it's really not.
