It's not really fur it's hair... when you say fur other images come to the mind.
What would you replace the cow-hair panels with?

Would prefer 'em same as the rest of the jacket, really. Hair is nice but it'd attract attention and I'm not comfortable with that, be it positive or negative kind.

One damn sharp looking jacket:

You have to scroll down: http://www.lostworldsinc.com/Grizzly_Horsehide_Mouton_Jacket.htm

I think if you want to wear this, you better be as tough as Chuck Norris.

I had a horsehair belt once. The hair does wear off and looks awful when it does

My horsehair belt from Will's Leather is going strong after 4 years and still looks good. However, it doesn't hold a candle to the belt I picked up
from Saddleback Leather. That thing is a tank, could probably tow a car with it lol.

I always think back to my cowhide hair rug. 3 dogs and a baby couldn't make it lose any hair (but they took their toll on mine). And they would tear ass all over the thing. I can't imagine a jacket like this would lose hair or thin.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I remember a friend had one in his living room forever, it didn't lose any hair in a decade

It depends on where the leather is from; I bought a hair-on-hide satchel bag in Palenque, Mexico and the hair has rubbed off on the back where it touches my waist. The skin underneath is this weird grey color, looks disgusting really. But others seem to never lose their hair.

I'm really surprised that after having owned my grizz for over a year, I have attracted not a single negative comment or look (that I or anyone with me has seen) despite living in very liberal California. That's not to say that it won't happen eventually.

They are probably not sure what your jacket is made out of. Typical people don't freak out over leather stuff, where I live the animal rights people only freak out over Canada goose jackets because of the cayote fur collar

I don't see why should you attract any negative comments about it, it's a strikingly beautiful style but... It also stands out a bit more than I feel comfortable with. There isn't really anything similar to the Grizzly on the market, it's one of its kind.

I was more referring to some crazy animal rights activists who think I killed a squirrel or rat or something for the fur and they're upset about it.

The problem is the man in the street doesn't "see" or indeed know the historical provenance of the "Grizzly" motorcycle jacket ... they simply see this :

and respond accordingly ( or maybe it was just when I wore mine ... I've had 4 :) )
