long commute

I have a 16 mile commute which takes me 1.20 hours! That's 40 mins getting from the suburbs and then 40 mins walking from Victoria Station to my office. I sometimes get the bus instead of walking but with half of London being dug up at the moment it can take just as long. I try to avoid the tube except in dire emergencies. I think I read somewhere that the average speed of traffic in central London these days is slowly than it was in the early 1900s

And I'll bet the horse apples didn't smell as bad as the fast food some individuals are ungracious enough to eat on the buses these days *yucky* .

I teach around my area, in gyms and and in peoples homes...I have anywhere from 1hr 20 min to 2 hour commute (public transport + shank's mare) for each hour of work, even for very geographically close commutes as the traffic is always so horrid. So if I teach 3 or 4 classes a day, by the end of it I'm a wreck! I'm over the moon if I can teach 2 classes back to back.

I love London and can't imagine living anywhere but, but it will probably shorten my life span...

Pretty much the same here. Except for the bike. I live on the side of a mountain and pedaling home after work would not be a pleasant chore.

About 10-15 miles from North Wichita to South Wichita. There is a Panera's Bagel shop, two McDonald's, a Sonic Drive-In, and a Dillons Supermarket with a Starbucks all on the right side of the road for breakfast.

I could ride a bike, but my corpse would have rotted long ago. The bike paths don't go from where I work to were I live and riding on Wichita's streets is a death warrant.

I knew a guy who used to ride in, but he lived closer than I do, and road through a lot of parking lots and on side walks (which is naturally illegal).

Its 43 miles from home to work. My usual and preferred commute is 1 hour, 20 minutes door-to-door. This consists of a 20m minute walk to the train station, a 35 minute train journey, a 12 minute trolley ride, and a 13 minute walk to the office. About 3 miles of walking a day round trip up over a hill and along a tidal creek. Pleasant.

If I drive, its 40 minutes in the morning, and 50 minutes to 2.5 hours in the evening. I only drive if I have to be in early, work late, or run errands.

I am currently unemployed, and have been so for some time (had a brief stint as an office assistant), but my commute to my community college is typically anywhere between twenty, to thirty minutes, depending on the traffic.

2.8 miles by car, I have walked it a couple of times but very steep down a long dirt road then very steep up a busy street to the office.

Having to ever return to the hour long commute frightens me.

I commend all of you who have long walks, or have to do multiple transfers between trains, busses, etc...seems like a giant pain in the behind to get somewhere every day.

My last commute took about two hours each way (car trip, train trip, change of trains & a short walk) it was horrendous & was one reason why I left that job.

About an hour in the morning, including picking up the two other stooges. The way back, sometimes longer. Me n' my buddies like to check out the skirts on the the main street, as well as stopping into the beer store for a few cups of coffee. Barring Mexican, Italian, or drive through restaurants, it can take a while to get back.

I'm an "IT regional field tech" supporting four college campuses in the rural southern Ohio area. The closest one to my house and the one I'm based out of for expense purposes is 20 miles or so, but I go directly wherever I have open work orders. The two campuses that are the farthest apart are a bit over 80 miles from each other and there have been times when I've hit all four campuses in a day, putting a bit over 200 miles on the car. Turned out that my car, a PT Cruiser, is perfect for the job as I often haul a lot of IT equipment and supplies between campuses.

I have satellite radio (left over from my brief stint as an over-the-road truck driver) and I listen to lots of audio books checked out from local libraries. I do wish the libraries had greater variety, though!

When I was stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany in the '90s it was about 10 miles from my house to my office. My office was formally part of transient quarters, so there was a full bathroom between my office and the next office. I started keeping uniforms in my office and bicycled to work, showering and getting into uniform upon my arrival. That was pretty handy! The times I didn't ride the bike I rode my motorcycle. Being able to hop on the autobahn and peg the throttle for the five miles sure shortened the commute time!

If I had a job and commute that allowed for the use of a bicycle or public transportation I'd make use of them, if not all the time. Rural areas do not lend themselves to that sort of situation, though.

I truly envy anyone that can walk to work. Here in Albuquerque, and with the distance I have to travel, that just isn't an option. I'm a big supporter of those who can save on gas money and keep themselves in physical shape with an enjoyable walk to and from work.
