long commute

So, how long is everyone's commute, in miles and time? And is it on public transit or private vehicle?

My commute is 42 miles each way, during rush hour both ways, except weekends. It takes 50 minutes to get there during the summer when school busses aren't running, and a smidge over an hour during the school year. Getting home can take as long as 2 hours, especially on Fridays.

I drive during the day too, on appointments, so I'm good for 1,000 miles a week, give or take.

davestlouis, my commute time used to take about as long as yours does. That is a lot of driving!!
Thankfully I don't have to drive in rush hour anymore and work is two minutes away. I'd love to get a hold of one of those classic Schwinn bicycles one day.

My commute is six miles each way, takes about twelve minutes. Of course, you can get anywhere in town within twenty minutes, so it's not that big of a feat.

I think on the road it's about 15 miles each way. On my bike I can manage it in about 35-40 minutes (lots of hills).

If i'm taking the tube it's a 10 minute walk followed by a 19 minute tube journey at rush hour. (The pleasures of being on a relatively new tube line - only 7 stops from here to work.)

I've got 26 miles each way. In the summer on the way into work it is about 30 minutes at best. During the school year it can be 45 minutes or even 50 or 55. Coming home is a different story. During the school year I make it home in about 35 minutes. But in the summer, and especially on a Thursday or Friday, it can take me more than an hour bc all the tourists are headed in the same direction to spend their weekends at the beach.

It's about 25 miles each way - 1:10 door to door if (and it's a big if) I get all my ducks in a row. 15 minute walk to the station, 1 train & 1 tube (or 2 tubes) and 5 minute walk from the station to the office.

I have a 16 mile commute which takes me 1.20 hours! That's 40 mins getting from the suburbs and then 40 mins walking from Victoria Station to my office. I sometimes get the bus instead of walking but with half of London being dug up at the moment it can take just as long. I try to avoid the tube except in dire emergencies. I think I read somewhere that the average speed of traffic in central London these days is slowly than it was in the early 1900s

My job just changed offices and moved a little closer to me, but mine's still about 28 miles. It has been taking 35 minutes during the summer, but will probably be around 50 minutes the rest of the year.

Luckily, I've got some excellent NYC radio stations to provide music: WKCR (mostly older, 20s-50s, jazz), WFUV (folk/rock/Americana), WQXR (classical), WBGO (mostly newer, 50s and after, jazz). All of these are public stations, so at least there aren't any obnoxious commercials...

The last time I worked in Manhattan (mid-90s), I had an hour-and-three-quarter killer: at least a fifteen-minute drive/run to the Croton train station, nearly an hour on the train, then a twenty-minute crosstown/downtown walk from Grand Central. It was brutal! Compared to that, under an hour entirely in the car is a pleasure...

73 miles each way ,mornings take 1hr 45 minutes ,evenings about 1hr 20 .
A lot less when the schools are on holiday though,as is the case now.Luckily i enjoy driving ..

I just traded a 35 mile each way commute in LA....which took at least 45 min on a good day and 2 hours on a bad day, each way

for a 23 mile commute from Hoboken to Berkeley Heights NJ.....which seems to take....-with- construction being done on roads...maybe 30 min....

I commute from da Bronx to Manhattan every day by NYC Subway. I don't think it's much more than 4 or 5 miles, but I'm not sure. Commuting by subway means that distances are almost meaningless. It's how many trains and connections that determines trip duration. Anyway it's 35 minutes door to door on a weekday. On the weekends, because they're doing a lot of constructions on my route, the trip can take much longer.

How lucky am I? I live in London and my commute is 15 minutes! PLUS, as of september we are moving offices and then my commute will be a 25 minute WALK!!! The 2 guys I work with in the studio both cycle over 10 miles each way every day and some people have 1.5 hour commute each way on public transport.

I just started a new job with a new bank and this is the first time I have been able to take my Vespa to work. The ride is 8 miles from Cambridge to Lexington, but it's down a single road and is very easy. I really enjoy the fresh air!

Door to door, it's 45 minutes to go about seven miles on the bus. Yes, the bus stops every two blocks, but I've tried driving and it's no faster. The cheap parking lots are half a mile from the office, and I can't drive in the HOV lane. However, I can read or nap on the bus.

It always gets me when people ask me, "Wouldn't it be easier to take the light rail?" Don't they think I'd do that if it were easier?

My old commute was about twenty to twenty five minutes, and fourteen miles. However, I'm starting a new job in another week, and my commute will probably be a little longer, and roughly eighteen miles. I also have my own business, so I can use my vehicle for a lot of business if required, or hardly any at all, depending on my needs.

My commute consists of a 20-minute walk, then a 35-minute BART ride, then another 20-minute walk. At least I'm getting a little exercise?

30 minutes to and fro on the bus. I love it. an hour of "me" time everyday, listening to music, reading., people watching....
