Did any of the attendees of the Queen Mary Event go vintage shopping?
The two ties were purchased on Melrose Avenue for about 4 dollars each.
The tie on the left is really neat. It is bright and clean. I wore it to dinner at Trader Vic's with Matt Deckard and Senator Jack. As an aside, dinner and company was excellent! The second tie needs a good cleaning. I might experiment on it with OxiClean.

Thanks to the recommendations of my companions I had an opportunity to visit downtown Long Beach.
My next score was a set of cufflinks and tietack. Fortune smiled on me as it has my initial on it! :)
It is silvertone with what looks to be a Hematite surface.

When I take pictures I will post the tan sports jacket and my very first vintage suit. It is a slate blue color, double breasted and fits great!
I am really thrilled with it.

Did anyone else go shopping?

Hi Feraud,

Congrats on the nice finds!

I enjoyed popping into the second-hand/thrift shops in LA, they're much better organised that what I have seen here in London.

In any event, the ties are very nice indeed, and the cufflink set is super!

I popped around to an estate sale earlier Friday (before arriving at the QM) and significantly added to the weight of my luggage on the way home:
-several Bing Crosby & Andrews Sisters records
-various & sundry sewing things
-original sheet music to "Aloha 'Oe"
-several hankies (Lauren can attest to my addiction)
-a pair of 40's wedding slippers (that conveniently fit Lauren - hurrah)
-and the Pièce de résistance - a 3 piece 40's men's suit for $3.50. (sorry boys, it's already been claimed.)

I picked up two hats while in Long beach. A green 1930s Stetson in a "popular size." The second was a brown suede finish Borsalino for the wife. I was surprised to see they even had a 7 3/4 hanging around. Not bad for about $40 a piece. I would have bought the 7 3/4 but (and I enjoy saying this for once) it was too big on me.
You did well Feraud. Vanessa, you did well too. :eusa_clap

Regards,

J

It sounds like we all did pretty well! I am glad to read it.
Here is a before & after on the tie I picked up on Melrose Ave.
Before - notice the stain.

After sitting in Oxyclean for a few hours. Not bad for a four dollar buy.

Wow, you did great Feraud. That tie looks brand new now! What great finds.
Hem, Mojave, Bern and I did a little shopping Saturday afternoon. It's very difficult for a gal to shop with three men!!! But, you guys were all patient while I carefully inspected items and put them back on the rack at the last minute. I can't believe all of those vintage stores, and I didn't buy a thing!!
Well, you did well, so I'm glad someone scored!
Daisy:)

Well in our case it was the opposite. MaryEllen waited patiently as I looked through each rack of clothes! lol
The selection of clothes and prices in Long Beach were much better than NYC and I had to make the most of the opportunity.

Btw, did you see the counterpart to Hemingway's monkey at the shops? She was sitting next to a Raggedy Ann doll. I was going to buy and mail it to Hem but the store was closed.

I hope you bought Mary Ellen a present. She deserves it!

That is one scary monkey. I actually have a raggedy ann doll just like that from when I was a kid. I've seen that monkey on ebay. I'm kind of glad that the store was closed. One less scary monkey in the Spiely-Jones household is OK with me !!! :) But, thanks for the thought, as always, you are sweet!
