Wow, it's been incredibly windy and rainy here today but it never occurred to me that elsewhere it would be that bad. Let's keep this bumped so people can check in to let us know they are safe.

Where's Doc?

It touched down in a street in Kensal Rise in north west London, and about 10-11 miles north east from where I work. The weather at my office was very strange this morning, very windy, lashing rain, black clouds, then 10 minutes later bright blue sky.

We've had some weird weather today, the lashing rain and sunshine as noted above plus a bit of hail thrown in for good measure.

Looking at the map the tornado happened about 6-7 miles from me as the crow flies.

I was in Derby when another struck there a few months ago, someone's trying to tell me something!

Doc was being treated to dinner by a rather lovely young lady (See? Equality between the sexes has some good points!) after a terrible afternoon of being forced to drink lots of free champagne.

I had lunch with Matei, so I can report that he's fine as well. Thanks to everyone for thinking of us.

I'm glad to see no Loungers were hurt. However, thanks to global warming there's a chance that we'll be seeing an increased incidence of these in the near future.

BOSTON! LETS GO PATRIOTS!!!
Golly, that is quite shocking. Also shocking was to read that they aren't as un-common a phenomenon as I thought. I really did think that they were a thing of the states, particularly places like Kansas and Texas, that area. But, this article states that the normal rate is 30 per year in the UK.
I'm glad to hear that our lounger friends are safe and sound. My thoughts are with all of those impacted by this.

Well, the article did state that London area has about 30 a year, so this really isn't out of the norm. I really don't know about the global warming issue. But, I will say that aside from about a week long heat spell, this past summer here in New England was cold. It's not abnormal for us to have 90 degree humid summer days. But, we had, what seemed, a lot less than average this past summer. We also, for the first time in a while, had a fall. The leaves changed right on time. But then again, it was in the high 60's here last week, which for December is just wacky. But tonight it's going below freezing, the wind is blowing and snow is on the way. It's December in New England, and it certainly feels that way! Just my opinion, I really don't know what I think about this global warming issue. I think their are a lot more things to consider. Yes something is making those early winter day's warm, but something was also making those summer nights freezing. And I do mean freezing, we had an evening in late August that was in the 30's! Brrrr!! Also, in the states a few years ago the south was slammed with consecutive, high category hurricanes. Prior to that, we had these kind of storms but their rate didn't seem to be higher than the average. We had 2 summers in a row that were very very bad, so people started again on the global warming issue. But this year, we had none. Again, just my opinion but I think it has to do with something else. I wish I knew what, but I'm not a meteorologist. I just look at what I've seen and felt the weather do, and it's not consistent. One summer hot, the next cold. And what about all the blizzards we keep getting every year. Bring on the global warming if it means the city streets won't by head high with snow!!!:D ;) :D :D

I found out about the tornado here from a friend back in Dublin... the CNN article just said "North London hit by tornado".

It wasn't anywhere near our flat...

As Doc said, the weather was weird. At one point I looked out the window and the sky was black with heavy clouds. Freaky.
