Hi Worf,
Sorry to hear of your trials and tribulations.
Just want to ask, are these jackets not available directly from Vanson?
This guy is outsourcing his production to Vanson, and doing all the design himself?

Dan develops the patterns and prepares test jackets with Vanson and others till he is happy. They are usually fastidious copies of movie jackets. I don't think you can get any of these Vanson direct. I can't imagine he makes a living from this.

It's an interesting idea.
I guess he's lucky that Vanson don't cut him out of the loop.
He must have a lot of skill to design the patterns and stuff, I wonder what his day job is?

A few years ago I wanted the same Captain America jacket and tried to contact Dan by email and phone for several months. He was completely unresponsive so I gave up. Just couldn't bring myself to send $695 to someone I couldn't contact.

However I did end up buying the jacket from him off his ebay shop last year. When purchasing off ebay he answered my questions (or someone did) and shiped quickly. Overall dealing with him on ebay was a good experience and it's a great jacket in the Vanson comp weight octagon brown.

I think the reason the ebay sales work is that that's how Dan sells his test jackets and those few that have already been made. Trying to get one custom built is a different proposition.

As for the jacket, it was a Modified "First Avenger".... think Aero Bootlegger with a bit more dash... but since ordering I purchased an Aero Bootlegger from the sale page and I love it.

Worf

Did you know that in the movie it's in fact a modified Bootlegger ?

I'm sure if you ask Ken, he would do one for you. But I understand you have to wait or you would lose 40% (I find this a little excessive, even when your order a new car it's just 30%... and it's a car...)

I just looked at the film jackets site, and I know they have to dodge legal issues and stuff, but seriously, the cryptic hints as to who wore what, in which movie are too much hassle for my tiny brain. I gave up.

I can understand the your pain. The contact on his webpage is basically useless (since day 1). Like many had said, the best way to contact Dan is via the Filmjacket forum. Or, alternatively, the guy's Facebook page.

My experience with him was actually pretty good while I got my House Jacket from him. I suspect that he places small batch orders at Vanson when he gets to a certain number of orders (correct me if I am wrong), and Vanson's slow responses with custom orders also do not help. I waited for almost 10 months for my House jacket at that time but we were in constant contact with Dan and Vanson at that time at the forum. Alternatively, try contacting Vanson directly.

To be fair to Logan's Closet, the quality of their jackets seems to be typical tip top Vanson, and I would say it is worth the wait if you really want the unique looks. I think Dan might have also registered the designs of some of his jackets and Vanson also seem to be happy dealing with him.

I hear you - that's because in most cases the geeks... sorry... people that buy the jackets know the films and the character's wardrobe intimately. Since I don't go to movies and hate superhero films I have no idea what the jackets mean either. He does a great Vanson made Californian half-belt.

Sorry to read this but yes, you are not alone.

There is a large thread over on the FilmJackets board. I know Dan does still post and login there thought another member was more recently acting as an intermediary on there to try to help get people their goods. If you can register over there it might be worth trying a post there too

Hope you get some kind of resolution. Lots of reports of people getting jackets 2+ years on though as I know myself from the Lawless mess, sometimes the wait and customer service can destroy the enthusiasm you first had for the product.

+1. I think if I had a project like this in mind I'd most likely go with Johnson Leathers, as I've never heard anything but praise for their efforts. Still, we can all understand, I think, how a photo can get that jacket lust going and you just have to get that one.
