I think I posted one or two of these photos somewhere else, but cannot find them.

Recently colourized photos of the Canadian Army during the Great War. Younger people can better identify with the context if seen in colour/color. Of course, all wars are fought in colour!

Staged picture of a French newsboy handing over a paper to two Canadian soldiers. On the right is Tom Longboat, an Onondaga, one of Canada's greatest athletes. A long distance runner, he won the Boston marathon in 1907, set the record for the 15-mile race in 1912, and was a star attraction at Madison Square Gardens for years:

The US Marines think they invented this hair cut, or Peaky Blinders. This is 1917, one month after the Canadians took Vimy Ridge. Any one today would recognize this guy on the street and not blink:
