Lining Repair

I have an Aero Stockman that I was trying to shift but might have to end up keeping. The lining is a blue, black and white tartan which has just (after 7 years) managed to wear through at two spots in the lower back. The wear looks like it would eventually follow a horizontal line a little way over the hem if left.

I am easily capable of patching it with similar-coloured material myself, but should I do it or splash out on a more expensive repair (either with a piece of original tartan or by having a tailor select exactly-matching material)? What do you think it would subtract from the (very ******* reasonable, gentlemen) sale price?

Let me start off by saying that your sale price on that jacket in the classifieds is very reasonable! If it were my size I would be tempted.
If the repair is done well I don’t think it would subtract from the sale price, if anything it should be considered an enhancement to the value of the jacket. I would suggest that you consider using something a little more robust this time around, perhaps a strip of corduroy around the bottom hem.

The tartan I chose was a light one: I think I will slit the lining along the darker bands of the material's colour and stitch an inner layer in.

If I were you I'd add a note to your classifieds saying that you'd be happy to patch the liner with a strip along the hem if the buyers wishes. So I'd leave the decision up to the buyer.
Most reasonable price indeed on that Stockman.

And yes, corduroy would be the best material for that but another thin wool or cotton twill is still an option, if only temporary - it'll last some time but probably not as long as corduroy.

Yes- I think that a happy medium would be getting a proper tailor to do it and including the receipt or whatever in the jacket pocket.

I think the main problem with your add is the lack of good pictures...
You have three pics, non show the jacket's overall condition, the state of the grain, the condition of the lining, nothing.
I wouldn't spend £275 without knowing what i am spending it on.
It's like trying to sell a car by only showing a picture of the wheels!

Most people on here know that Aero jackets have a tendency to tear the lining on either sides of the hips, it's just what they do, i don't think that's the problem.
