Anyone else looking forward to this?

Just wrapped up two weeks ago. I love Lewis, so I can't wait.

HI

I was looking at Daniel Day Lewis's movies and I disagree. I didn't like Gangs of New York, or Last of the Mohicans. I didn't see there will be blood, but I was planning on it. I'll probably watch Lincoln, I lived near Springfield IL so I've been to his house, his business, New Salem, the old state capitol etc. I don't DISLIKE Lewis so much, but I didn't like his movies that I've seen.

DDL is the best male movie actor working today. Love everything he does even if I'm not crazy about the vehicle.

Hey, we agree on something AC ;)I really like him. Nobody can carry those dark roles better. I simply believe I'm watching the real deal when he's on screen.

I'll wait for the reviews from you Butte, on this movie.
The last Lincoln film I saw, was Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
Now I'm not going to lie, I'm not a history major, and I didn't know this little hidden fact about his life, so I was shocked to learn this.:eeek:
As a fan of the B genre, especially the Horrors, I enjoyed it.
But a film about the true struggles he went through would be nice.

I'll let you know. We see it soon. I can understand some not liking DDL or the films, but I love Lincoln and DDL so it's a no brainer for me.

I have been a student of Lincoln's life and times since kindergarten after seeing his picture. I remember the moment. And then learned to read fast so I could read about him. I now have shelves of books and have had wonderful correspondence with respected Lincoln authors.
I am very much looking forward to the movie as I respect Lewis as an actor. I have high hopes for it. That said, the fist pounding, wild eyed man of the trailers I've seen is certainly a brand new Lincoln with whom I've not been acquainted. So we'll see.

I've always been a Lincoln fan too. I have a framed paper from the day after his assassination that was handed down through my family. My Dad gave it to me years ago. ONe of my favorite things. I see just about anything to do with the subject. Well, I passed on the whole vampire thing. Not that I couldn't enjoy it for what it was, just not going to pay for it :)

I'm looking forward to this as well, partly because I used to live in Gettysburg and had a bit of the Civil War in our daily lives, but also because not only is DDL a great actor, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt is great, too.

I think I read somewhere that Lincoln's adult voice did not have the sonorous timbre of, say, the "Great Moments" Lincoln robot at Disneyland. Apparently, the real Lincoln had a thin, reedy voice (think Fred Astaire).

DDL's Lincoln voice seems to be a good, middle-ground compromise between sonorous robot and reedy Astaire.

You'd love this joynt. And you and Ralph (the former proprietor) would have gotten along famously.

He had a high, thin, voice. As awkward as the rest of him. But it suited him, and he played it up. Lincoln was probably more vain and aware of his own persona than we might imagine.

As to books, is there one biography of him that's better than all the rest? I'd like to read just one, to get a good idea of the man behind the legend.

That would probably be Team of Rivals. There's also Finding Lincoln, a book that tries to follow the recorded memories of those who knew him. Or Lincoln's Sanctuary. Abraham Lincoln at the Soldier's Home. Or anything by Harold Holzer.
I believe there are more Lincoln bios than of any other man.

Yes ,to this movie and DDL. Has potential to be a good one. Looking forward to it. I like the fact that Lewis chooses his movies selectively as artists should ,its nice to see him back, even if the film is a flop his acting I am sure wont disappoint .
