I hadn't heard of this photographer - Nina Leen - who escaped fascist Europe and came to the US to be a photographer for LIFE magazine. There are some incredible images in here from the 1940s.

The trade organization for ice dealers used to brag that their product was much purer and more transparent than the kind you make in an electric refrigerator. Looking at that photo you could almost believe it.
