I get this all the time. I really bothers me when people assume I'm politically or socially conservative. I come from a long line of Democratic party movers and shakers and my husband is a progressive not-for-profit activist (The New America Foundation). I'm very proud of my liberalism and view it as an insult to be called conservative or Republican.

I stopped caring about the assumptions a number of years ago. I just got tired of dressing for everyone else and doing things for everyone else's approval. At my age, it's time I did what I wanted to.

I just find it particularly annoying when so-called educated people ask me silly questions such as, "Is that a costume?" or "Are you trying to be Marilyn Monroe or somebody?"
