Thanks, Ronin, for the Blast From the Past!

Wow! Leo Gorcey and Crazy Guggenheim! They sure ain't Bogart or Howard Hughes - but great company nonetheless!

I think....:p

That's a French tricorn. Very common even in the colonies, where some adopted that style due to fashion or allegiance to the French assistance in our revolution...on this side of the pond. Different from the more equilateral-triangle English effect...these styles were never absolutely defined by geography.

But back to Red Skelton. This is a recurring thought for me. Are any of you ancient enough to recall his TV show? In his monologue, he'd adopt various characters and reshape his felt hat to suit their characters. In an instant. To me, at a young and impressionable age, that hat was magical. Any suggestions as to the quality or make of that hat? It was completely morphable into any shape he wanted, and nary a stray crease line remaining. Still amazes me.

The man is stylin there. He always manages to look sharp.

One of the things I love about fedoras and other brimmed hats is their ability to convey the mood or personality of the wearer. I will occasionally flip my brim up in front and down in back, when feeling more kooky than usual. I am definitely a brim up all-around kind of guy more often than not.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. One of the great things about hats. I've liked what is now considered "Indiana Jones" style fedoras since a decade before those flicks were made...but not before Cagney, Bogart and others I watched late at night on TV. Still I remained flexible - I recently bought a stingy-brimmed Stetson on eBay. Love it and been wearing it often. Even when I see someone wearing a hat that wouldn't look right on me, I think "hey, good look on them!" Truly magical.

Okay - I've decided that I like my brim up in the front and down in the back. I find that I can get a nice swoop effect. Does anybody else "go backwards" or am I alone in my madness? :p

Nope your not alone I am wearing my Adams open road clone brim up at the front sweeping back to a downturn at the back. Was wearing the Wormser that way when I first got it but after my hatter cleaned it it it ended up looking like a whippet with a snap brim. Can wear my OR any style at all. It is a sort of citizen cane style or look, picture on the movie jacket of Orsen Wells

I'm with everyone else who says this look suits you. Stick with it. Something about your face makes it work. I mean this with affection, but you have that kind of weathered look going on, and a quirky half-smile that somehow compliments the shape of the brim. It looks a bit rock, a bit depression era. In fact, I could swear I've seen you in a couple of FSA photographs.

Anyway, I like it.
