I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned this movie here, if not, it's a MUST SEE!!
It takes place in 1954...it features Hollywood Jackets, patterened gab jackets, burlesque, "the numbers", and amazing soundtrack.......oh yeah, a great story too!! :)
It's kind of a companion piece to the film "Diner". Nothing epic, but a slice of life, that really captures the feeling of the pre Rock N Roll, racially tense early 50's.
This is great for an early Autumn movie night, since that's when the movie's taking place.

It is a good movie, and so is Avalon, both underated "personal" films by Barry Levinson who directed Diner and Tin Men. For nice looking period stuff he also directed The Natural and Bugsy. Why not have a Levinson film fest? Just try to avoid Toys.

The James Brown concert was filmed in a historic theater in my town. When the movie was shown it was sort of wierd sitting there and watching it from point of where the camera filmed it from.

Agreed - saw this in the theaters, then got it on VHS, then replaced the VHS with a DVD. It's an excellent flick! As mentioned earlier Avalon is also very very good. maybe a little weightier in tone.
The clothes in Liberty Heights were already mentioned, but check out the interiors as well! Whoever did the sets knew their stuff.
