But get an actual aero instead of Levi...

When Ken at Aero was going into production on these he had a few test samples and talked me out of getting one. He said they weren't bad, just not as good as the regular Aero. (the leather that is) Levi wanted a certain leather that Aero doesn't normally use....

Not that you'll be un-happy with it, you can just get better... that's all...

Several months ago, Aero offered stuff it had made for Levi's on its sale page. I don't know whether any remains available.

Well Shamus, you are either mistaken or Ken was feeding you (or the rest of us) some kind of spin. On the Aero site they consistently use the various leathers purchased for LVC orders to manufacture "regular" Aero jackets and describe these leathers as being more expensive then what they'd normally use for regular Aero jackets and only were only able to be purchased because Levi's is willing to shell out for the best.
For the record, Aero offered several different jackets for LVC. Two different versions of the Bootlegger design, one was offered in their no-longer-available "grain rich" horsehide, the other in their still-available "vintage" black horsehide. There were two different versions of the !930's Halfbelt (a his and hers) both made in an inky black buffalo with a blue base. There a longer 30's Western-style Halfbelt made in a russet steerhide. And finally the civilian A-1 jacket made from seal capeskin.
Note that Aero used the "grain rich" horsehide on their standeard jackets and it quickly sold out. They continue to offer the "vintage" black horsehide on their regular jackets. They used the blue/black buffalo hide for a line of cafe racer jackets which are nearly sold out (this buffalo hide is a particularly fine leather). They continue to use the russet steerhide for their "limited edition" A-2. And the same seal capeskin used on the LVC jacket is still used for their A-1 jackets.
I own several "regular" Aero jackets in various hides as well as several Aero/LVC jackets and I can most emphatically assure you that there is absolutley no difference in quality of materials and manufacture between the two.

No... I read the leather was made by Aero... the jackets were made by Levi's... this was a while back and I could be wrong.

Aero aren't a Tannery, don't 'make' leather.
They import hides from the 'States.

Aero consult on the design of/and manufacture the Levis 'Vintage' leather range in Scotland.

I fear that partnership may have dissolved as the latest LVC Leather jacket, the "Menlo" cossack, was manufactured in Portugal (and is a really neat jacket). Perhaps the dollar became too weak to continue hiring Aero, which is a damn shame as it was a beautiful arangement.
