Mike that's perfect, just how I like to see all my collars. It's a very personal thing of course.
My long gone (too snug) GW Ventura, my Aero Premier 30's half belt and my recent vintage 40's Hercules (that latter shows you can still shape a 70 year old jacket!)

My Bootlegger tended to lay flat in front when new and actually shaped it's self while being worn. I didn't feel any need to do much except maybe more sharply crease the collar folds somewhat.

Thanks chaps, just thought I'd show a few jacket pics to give us a break from discussions on court proceedings (although it is all fascinating stuff) :)

As we all know that Eastman collars, especially on their Rough Wear contract A2s, can look at bit odd but with HWT and a little bit of work they can be manipulated into a more appealing shape.

Here is my 2011 RW 27752 after the HWT treatment.....

I've never heard of this before, but I'm intrigued. Is there any practical reason you guys shape your collars?

I reshaped my Cooper Desert Storm era A2 (which has the infamous disco collar) by washing it and reshaping the collar with some clothespins. Result is WW2 perfect. So do not fear hot water-- all leather is made in water.

It's a subtle difference & I note that I seem to prefer the opposite shape to most. I tend to curve mine outwards, rather than a mini ski slope shape.

Dan, Thats the way I initially tried to shape my collar as well.....I wonder if its an Australian thing as everyone else has gone the opposite route?

It's probably the gravity down here.
We are on the underside of the world you know. Being upside down, it causes the collar to flex outwards, whereas if you stood 'upright' in the northern hemisphere, the gravity causes the collar to curve downwards.

It's science....

Thanks, DanT; excellent analysis. Being in the northern hemisphere, I flex my collars with HWT to bend downward, just like everyone else up here.

You can get the collars to shape anyway the leather will stretch by mixing isophorific alcohol and distilled water 50/50, Wetting the leather down very well, forming it the way you want and letting it dry.
