Wow, this thread has really gone downhill. I'm an idiot.

Let me go edit the OP - I didn't put in nearly enough details.

OK, Jereckson, would you please make your question clear? I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't understand what you are going for. "Do your worst"??? And that means???

Alright Art, take it easy. I'm editing the OP now to make it more clear.

What I was originally establishing was "what is your preference in frontal sillohette taper" - taper sides, straight sides, or mushroomed sides.

"Do your worst" is a saying that would insinuate "let's go".
Similar to "let's light this candle", etc. Sorry about that.

Good God in heaven does the cowboy hat vs fedora "argument" (more of a pitiful back and forth nothingness) really need to pervade every thread? It's really getting boring. Take it elsewhere.

Cowboy Hat
n. a broad-brimmed hat with a high crown, usually of soft felt, as worn by cowboys.

Cowboy
n. A man who herds and tends cattle on a ranch

Clint wasn't a cowboy in Pale Rider. In fact, I'm fairly certain he was only a cowboy in Hang 'Em High (movies previous to Pale Rider).

CLINT was a Cowboy in the TV show, "RAWHIDE" :D

Did someone mention a "preacher's hat"?

This might do. I like it. Definitely tapered.

Oh, you mean Hoppy's hat!:

But seriously folks, that graphic looks like those puzzles for kids that say "What's different about these pictures?"
But really seriously, folks, I agree with the guys who say it's all a matter of taste. Different strokes for different folks. Your mirror will tell you.

One of the things I've come to appreciate most about collecting, and I assume most of us are collectors, is that variety is what spurs collecting. Who would want 100 black hats, each shaped exactly like the other 99?;)

My most sincere apology. I thought that a poster had never seen a reverse taper from the side, only from the front. Since Pale Rider has a reverse taper hat, I thought this would give an ample opportunity for said poster to see what it looked like from different angles. My post was NEVER intended to provoke a brouhaha between westerns and any other type of hat. The fact is that we make much more of a delineation over hat styles and occupations than did the wearers of yesteryear. Bat Masterson, was a lawman in the old west, and guess what he wore a derby. Go figure, the were many that wore Fedora style hats, homburgs and others. Surely, we can move past this one style -vs- another and learn about hats. Isn't that what most of us came here for to start with?
