So I am putting here my latest purchase, the 52mm Gruen Curvex Majesty (the holy grail of curvex) from 1938:

Cabot Watch Company has supplied this watch to the British SBS since 1987 and is still currently issued. It replaced the Rolex Submariner. I have both in vintage form. The CWC is an outstanding tool watch by any measure.

Vintage 1950 Elgin that arrived today

Vintage art deco BENRUS that arrived today. it has a BO1 movement, 17 jewels. It's keeping time nicely.

Another interesting piece that is coming to me soon. I coudn't find much about the brand on Google, so any info is very welcome. It's working and it has an interesting bracelet. That minute hand looks like a replacement but it's interesting anyway. I like the patina...

I paid only $27,95 for it.

After several years ,I was surprised to find a '51 Hamilton 992B with a Montgomery dial this past Tuesday when my Hamilton Khaki automatic stopped and I had to find a local shop to repair. He watchmaker asked if I knew about the Montgomery dial. He said he didn't have a watch with that dial. I responded that he had one sitting in the case. My search for this iconic Hamilton began with a song by my musical hero, Norman Blake. Mr. Blake grew up in the Southern US and has been writing songs about trains for decades. His lyics are both historically and technically correct.

Mr. Blake used to perform at my undergraduate college back in the '70s and would stay with friends of mine whenever he was in town. One of my favorite memories of college is sitting around the fire with him and a group of other musicians. Nice to see he's still around.

If I remember correctly, back in the 50s and early 60s, Elgin and Bulova were two top of the line watch brands. Am I right about that? I was just a kid and way too rough on a watch to have either of those brands. Plus, kids just didn't have nice watches back then.

Here is a NOS 17 Jewel Swiss movement Regency.....
A couple of things of note: Has a "ceiling price" tag indicating stock from 1951 to 1953. Has a blue RUBBER wrist strap?!?!?!?! AND it is clearly marked "Swiss" on the buckle and absolutely came with this watch....
I have heard of these being introduced on men's watches in the early 50's. Rolex and others (and obviously this brand) introduced them as a leather/metal alternative that was "lighter, cooler, and more comfortable" than the usual strap material. They were not popular at that time (probably the reason this sat on the shelf so long) and only became popular later in the 60's as a great alternative for the "waterproof" divers and sports watches....all in all a cool working time capsule...

Yes, I kind of forgot about it (instructions).....I put the watch away to photograph some hats and ads........
Wil try to get it out to photograph as well.....I may need a reminder....

This Eska arrived to me yesterday... I paid only $15 fot it

Not the best looking movement, but it's working. I shall take it to the watchmaker for cleaning... ETA 900 if I'm not mistaken...
