I'm not a fan of vic but the jackets in this thread do look outstanding. Aside from the black to brown vic, the hide doesn't really develop any patina. Lots of creases and grain pop but that's not what I consider patina (it certainly does develop character though).

I think that is an accurate assesment. When i first received my dark seal vic jacket it was after a week where there were a bunch of posts featuring cordovan cxl. When i opened the box it was like a gif of a balloon deflating. It just doesnt have the color depth of other leathers. However, what it does have is virtually zero break in time. Considering that the jacket i bought accomodates approx 4 months of temp range and it has to share those 4 months with 2 other jackets, and even then most days see an hour or two of wear at most, it would take an absolute lifetime to break in some other leathers. After about a year or so the vic is creased, softening, and developing some nice shape. There are a lot of variables to consider in jacket purchases. I definitely think there is room for Vicenza in most collections. The temperature here is supposed to make a 40 degree swing this weekend. I’ll try to pull it out of storage and get up some fresh pictures.

I agree. My blackened brown Vicenza type III was comfortable right out of the box. It certainly makes the jacket nicer to wear which in turn makes one more likely to wear the jacket.

Great looking jacket! I can definitely see some great wear and color changes on it. Is it seal or dark seal? Tough to tell.

Character doesn't have to be "patina" like what CXL does, it can just be wear, abrasions, scuffs, etc. Nothing will behave like CXL in the leather world because it's a truly unique tanning process.

I'm most interested in making 2 Aero jackets now. A dark seal A-1 with olive knits and a dark seal Ridley with antique brass hardware.

The nature and color of seal vicenza is hard to catch on a photo. It's a fantastic leather and the character is well present. At least for me
Maybe not as extreme as an extra heavy horsehide but strng enough to make any other "casual" jacket look like a plastic bag ;-)

I think that my jacket is "seal" and not "dark seal", the hue is changing following the light. In direct sunlight, it's "marroon" (like the nut of Aesculus hippocastanum; european horse-chestnut tree).

Marro, any tea core showing through yet? I haven't seen a lot of pictures of this hide broken in.
