I have a beautiful twenty year old brown, flight type, leather jacket. I had it redyed five years ago and now in some places the first layer of skin is leaving. Can anyone give me tips on referbishing?

I've used Obenaufs leather oil to bring a couple of old jackets back to life. Old, dry leather just drinks it in. It does darken the leather, though.

Photos? It's impossible to know from such a general description. If a layer of leather has come off it's probably time for a new jacket perhaps in a higher quality leather. Twenty years isn't a particularly long life for a leather jacket,

So sorry my camera needs my attention, so no pics.

The worst area of leather stress is where my car sholder belt came in contact with the jacket and pulled the outter layer of leather away from the jacket, but not off. I have two other minor areas like it on the jacket.

Here is one pic of the shoulder area where it's stressed.

I'd have to agree with the chorus on this one: this jacket hasclearly been made from a lighter hide which has just worn over time. It could be possible to put patches on over the worn bits, but I would agree with the others that there's no easy fix for this, and it might in the long run be better to look into a new jacket.

Might gently trim the rough edges with tiny curved scissors but concur with others this jacket is near end of life ... untitled.png
