Leather jacket alterations

Does anyone have any experience or input on alterations on an Aero jacket. Does Aero do alterations. I've had my half belt for a couple of months now and thought about changing a couple things. I live on the west coast USA so I would have to ship it.

Shipping a jacket back and forth between California and Galashiels, Scotland will be very expensive. Why don't you touch base with Johnson Leather Company to see if JL can make the alteration?

What Fanch said.

I live in Oregon and had to have my sleeves shortened, an inside pocket deepened, and the main zipper replaced (another Talon fail). Alan at Johnson Leather was a delight to work with, the work was done quick and well, and it cost less than postage to and from Scotland. Carrie at Thurston is another west coast option.

Willy, I see that you are in California. If you are in SoCal, I have an amazing leather guy who does alterations that are better than the quality of the original product. PM me if you need details.

I would like to bump this thread as I am in search of someone who can "take up" (imagine cutting out about 2" of the side panels on each side of the jacket) the girth of my Aero Cafe racer and re-secure the primary zipper catch--as it is coming undone. I live on the East coast, but I am not opposed to a West Coast option.

I'm sure he has his hands full with recent events but you could give Alan at Johnson Leathers a holler. Most companies won't touch another makers jacket but I suspect he might. Worth a shot.

I posted this in the button hole repair thread, but it is even more appropriate here. Board member pak recommends Great Leather/Leather Care Specialist in Avon, Il for repair work.

Johnson are a good option. Another alternative to shipping to Scotland would be to talk to Insurrection in Seattle - they sure know their way around an Aero. Certainly either should be able to advise you whether the work you propose is feasible and sensible; there wil lcome a point where it might just make more sense to sell the existing jacket and buy over in another size.

Insurrection in Seattle is an excellent suggestion. You could call Carrie, see what she says and then send her a pic. She knows what she is doing, plus she is fun to talk to.

What Edward said. Check in with Carrie. I know they do some alterations, I just don't know to what extent. They did a beautiful job replacing a broken zipper pull and mended a hole that was starting to form in one of my hand warmer pockets.

Alan at Johnson Leathers did unbelievable work on a jacket for me. They do great work and are extremely easy to deal with.
