Jacket #4: I made this one using more A-2 features. One piece back, two piece arms, Dubow A-2 collar, epps, and pockets. A-2 patterns have the shoulder seam sloped farther back then my civilian pattern and the Dubows have a more generous cut in the body than some of the other A-2 makers. Dubow arms are wider than I prefer so I combined the narrow arms from the civi jacket with the body of a Dubow. I made the pockets and collar more scalloped and pointed than the previous jacket and made the body a little shorter for a higher waist.
I managed to make this jacket smaller in the body than I intended so I decided to experiment with the leather and fit. I used my favorite altering technique, soaking the jacket in the washing machine, spinning it dry, then wearing until fully dry. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. The grain popped, the leather creased, and the fit is now perfect (for my taste). I'm 6' 200 lbs, 44 chest and wear a 16X35 shirt. The jacket is now a comfortable trim fit with a flannel shirt or light sweater, and it LOOKS amazing. This would be a looser fit on a 42 long or a nice trim fit on a 44, depending on how you like your jackets. But please check the measurements to be sure.
The knits are 100% wool, liner 100% cotton, brass YKK bell-shaped zipper.
Unfortunately I tried to save some time and complete more steps at once than my skill level could comfortably support. The end result is that one pocket is slightly higher than the other, and the inside leather zipper chafe strips are slightly different widths. because of this I am selling it for less than I have into it. I kind of like this though, it gives the jacket more character and with the creasing and grain makes the jacket look very '40's authentic.
