Lawless Denim

A little bit of good news for me at least, had a call from the bank and they are happy to start a chargeback claim against Lawless/LD&Co, this for an original November order.

It was only for one pair in the end as I cancelled everything else earlier so not really about the money but hopefully this will have some kind of detrimental effect on them given they've ignored any communication I've sent them for the past two months - Have no idea if they have to pay out themselves on a chargeback?

Given today/yesterdays developments on the other board which has seen someone receive a pair of jeans that appear to have been 'rebranded' from another maker I can't say I'm sorry I'll never see my Lawless(or whomever) order.

Your UK card provider / bank is, from memory, bound to refund you all bar an 'excess' of about £50 (in practice they typically refund you the full amount). They usually have a quick investigation (to make sure your claim is legit), then, in my experience anyhow, they seem to refund you before chasing the company for their money back.

From the Selvedge board, there seems to still be a tiny, but very sporadic trickle, and that's jeans only, no shirts or jackets. But in the last couple of weeks even that seems to have dried up.

The advice now is don't kid yourself that you'll get anything and just go straight to your bank for a chargeback.

The Lawless ship is all but below the waterline and the guy's credibility is shot to pieces (again).

Utter lunacy. I get the impression that Ciano Farmer has sort of stepped into the slot Lawless has left vacant now. I like the Brando jacket they've got on the page there - basically a Aero Marine in duck canvas.

Is anyone actually receiving product, or is it now purely a legal thing?

My drummer, which i mentioned earlier in the thread, had ordered a pair of jeans last november and he finally received it 3 weeks ago.
So things are still coming out. Unfortunately he hated them. Since ordering from Lawless he had also ordered a pair of IH, and he says the Lawless fit like crap compared to the IH.
He said they aren't badly made, they just have a bad fit. I think he decided to give them to someone homeless, so someone on the street will have the Ferrari of denim.

What's the word on Ciano Farmer? Never heard of them before, just checked their website, and there's a couple things that looks great.

From what I've seen all good so far, going from the selvedgestyle board. They seem to have got a little behind with delivery at times but when they do they adjust the delivery time for new orders. Everything I've seen that's been delivered has looked very nicely made.

Yeah, I wasn't blown away by the fit either, not least they were an inch too short! It has to be one of the most bizarre business ventures I've come across.

I've had quite a few dealings with Ciano, buying I think about 4 things so far. He's a good, regular guy, but is now becoming a victim of his own success with increasing delivery times. I still have 23oz jeans on order with him.

I had the Brando jacket, the second one he ever made, but sent it back as the design needed tweaking. That's on his to-do list, but he's banging out car/chore coats (I really like mine) and is developing a Type 3 at the moment.

One thing's for sure, he does solid, quality work at a very reasonable price, and is still open to a fair amount of customisation at next to no cost.

I just came to work, and checking my emails I see that my Lawless jeans are about to ship. Hmm. I'll keep you all posted.

On August 29, I received an e-mail from LD&CO stating that my order (# 1274) is "awaiting shipment". Nothing else since then. Ordered in Nov. 2014 so it's been a while.

That's exactly what I got, and I ordered in November as well. I thought it curious, too, that they had the original price listed and not the one I paid.

I think their system is completely shot. My other half got her 'your jeans are in the cutting room' email months ago, and then nothing. As far as I can tell, the company is almost completely sunk.

I think a few people had this on the other board a few weeks ago. Nothing ever arrived there, no surprise.

Some have theory's on why they started using the 'list' prices in all correspondence, to my mind its at likely to be incompetence as fraud but I'm not in a position to know. The Lawless/LD&Co website also went down a week or so ago. Apparently there was a post on their private instagram account to say not to worry, they were just busy working on product. :whistling

Their website is unavailable now. I don't expect anything from them now, and I don't think I can get my money back since the order was placed last November. I have tried contact them by email or their online message system, but no reply at all...

Yepper, this sorry story is done. It's funny, a friend of my son's who's full of dreams of start-up wealth and glory recently had a meeting with some local venture capitalists... His business model reminded me of this debacle.... needless to say he didn't get a dime. Ian came and asked me what I thought... I related my history with Lawless and I told him the company was aptly named for a bunch of thieves and incompetents.... Never again....

My first request for a charge back was denied by American Express because I waited until beyond the 60 day window beyond the original delivery date. They were willing to open a new I one (which they just approved) based on LD's offer to refund if you contacted them (this was posted to Instagram and their blog in August). Amex was unable to receive a response from them. My orders were from December so it may be worth a try.
