This is one of a variety of emblems this unit had during WW2 , it is most remembered for being one of the units on the Famed Ploesti Oil refinery missions, they also carried this emblem on their B-24 aircraft .............
376th Bombardment Group "Liberandos"
Some of the Group emblem even had a small "Squadron" emblem over the bomb on the patch .

To make it look like it was actually on the Ploesti raid, i think you should give a light toasting with a blow torch …!
(Kidding!)
What a hideous raid that was … must have been like flying into the gates of Hell itself … the stuff of night terrors for decades afterwards.

Thanks Stand By , yeah by what I've read and been told about those missions they were Hell and then some, a lot of crews didn't come back from them and those that did were really beat up to say the least !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
