Langlitz Cascade Black Cowhide

Please tell me there is a huge wait on langlitz and they cost a fortune and they don't take internet orders or ship overseas....anything to stop me going down that path again....

They offer paying in installments. From buyers abroad. You can start hating me now.

Thanks guys. I love the jacket and Langlitz has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. I had a chance to be out in Portland in March and made it into the shop. Bennie measured me and it was a real treat to meet those guys (and gals) and see their craftsmanship at work first-hand. My impression is they will do pretty much whatever you want as far as customization, and I did spend quite a bit of time taking a look at their Japanese site -- there is a lot of great stuff there. Wait time was about 11 weeks, price $1010. It's pretty much a standard Cascade, with "Columbia-style wrist gussets" (strip of leather between the zip on the sleeves rather than open), optional pinstripes on the back, and one additional inside chest pocket. The lightweight cowhide looks great, and the jacket really feels light and easy to wear. John showed me some of their stuff from the 40's and 50's and that cowhide ages like nothing else I've ever seen. All in all it's hard for me to think of a single other material object I have in my life that's as great as this jacket, what else can i say I hope I'm worthy of it.

Yeah man. It's as good as it gets. The more I look at it I just can't even get the words for it. It's an IDEAL fit. The construction looks perfect and goes without saying with Langlitz. That back tho. Jesus H. That's just an absolute master class of design. I'm jealous as Hell. Wear that sucka loud and proud! That's as good as it gets!

on a very clean front like this, the wear lines is going to be very organic I bet, since there is no chest pockets etc that usually dictate the creasing, hopefully you'll post more pics by then

Can you tell me if the light weight cow is much different in appearance than the mid weight? I had a sample of the mid weight and didn't think it was attractive, though it seemed great for protection. Your jacket looks fabulous though.

Absolutely love it! That jacket is going to be a thing of beauty when it gets worn in a bit. Truly inspiring. It's refreshing to see something posted on Langlitz for a change. And I'll admit that ever since I picked up my vintage goatskin Langlitz Cascade, I've had in mind a custom Cascade in mid-weight cowhide for my next purchase. And I especially like that pinstripe back- a signature Langlitz look! The amazing history and craftsmanship of Langlitz is legendary. And that fit on you is just perfection.
So what made you pick the lightweight cowhide over the mid-weight...or the goatskin?

kronos77 and technovox: this lightweight cowhide is really nice. I have another Langlitz jacket in the midweight brown cowhide that's two years old and boy that midweight is tough stuff. I've worn it a ton, slept in it like a dozen times, and it is just starting to soften up and break in. I think it's going to be amazing in about ten years or so. That one is a straight front-zip Cascade, and it's also great but the fit isn't quite as snug as on this new one. Now I realize that the standard cross-zip is the real classic, and they have the pattern down to perfection. Their goatskin is also really nice, but what tipped me to the cowhide was seeing those jackets in the shop from the 40's and 50's and the kind of wear and patina that the cowhide can develop.

Yeah man, your jacket will age gracefully as the years go by. I have yet to find a vintage leather that has such subtly profound aged attributes. Something about the cowhide w/the hardware they use. It just reeks of quality.

That jacket is perfection! Did you go by the sizing guide and if so did you get it shorter than that suggests? I know the guide instructs to measure 1" below the bottom of the belt line but that jacket looks like it hits exactly at the belt line....and looks immaculate.

Do you have any idea if the jackets from 40's and 50s typically used the mid-weight or the light weight cowhide?

Thanks wclary -- I was able to make it out to Portland and stop by the shop, Bennie measured me for the jacket and I requested a snug fit. I think he pretty much used the exact same method they specify in their measuring sheet they send out with the catalog. The front length is 21"; I'm 5' 11", weight about 175 lbs. My feeling is this jacket is designed to run on the shorter side and I have to say it makes it a whole lot easier to sit with the jacket zipped up, for example while driving (I don't ride a motorcycle) without the jacket riding up into my neck.

Technovox, sorry I don't know but I'm sure the folks at Langlitz would be happy to talk to you, they've always bent over backwards to be helpful and accommodate me with any questions.

Thanks guys, the jacket is softening up nicely. I was thinking once I hit the one-year mark I'll take some more pictures and put them up.

I can't speak for @Frame, but I have a Cascade. I followed the measuring instructions to measure down to one inch below the belt, and my jacket hits right at the belt, where it should for a riding jacket. So, while I can't confirm that's the case here, I can tell you that following the measuring instructions to a tee will earn you an excellent fit.

My first try posting. Made the 200 mile drive on my birthday to Langlitz, got measured for padded Cascade. Arrived Monday in less than a month. For a Midweight cow it's almost as heavy as a steer Aero I have, weight is 6.5#. Also, picked up a stock Timberline goat. The Timberline is a great design, I think it will make a match with my Indian motorcycle.
