Ladies Spats

I've been toying with the idea of getting some spats to wear over shoes for the winter and found this website:

Does anyone here own or wear spats? When and where do you wear them?

I was thinking over shoes with a skirt but I guess they could be used under rousers too?

My wife wears spats I made her (and I wear spats, too, men's ones). She wears them with skirts. They're low-calf length, but I'm going to make her a pair of knee-high ones as soon as I feel up to making a couple dozen keyhole buttonholes by hand.

I made a very pretty knee high pair trimmed in lace with little pearl buttons, but haven't worn them much because of a cutting error. (i cut too close to the seam on one made of very ravel-y fabric.) -_-
