Going by the photograph posted by HJ, i'd say his first name sums him up.

He appears to be a man who would be described as 'gay' in romantic literature: full of the joys of life (some of the main joys in life being fine clothing and fine hats) ...

I hate it when excellent words drop out of use because of petty connotation. Like, how many times have you seen the word "ejaculated" in recent literature? Read A. C. Doyle and his contemporaries. A word that is used prolifically in their work. Never see it in context today.

p.s. I knew a woman once named Gay Rose. Great name. Perhaps the best i've encountered.
