Well, if they're made from the husks that fall off when bamboo grows, then they'll never degrade, that's for sure. We've got big bamboo in the back and that stuff is strange, almost like styrofoam.
So do you think those hats are particularly old examples?
The Casa Grande is older as the sweatband is extra crispy and the embossed lettering in silver appears earlier in style. The ribbon on the Trail's End doesn't seem too modern either. I don't know when the company last made them. There are two in larger sizes currently on ebay but in less attractive(to me) styles. All I found with the search was a wholesale Grocer in Florida with the name.
I have a Koko-Kooler fedora and it's seen just about two seasons with me. Hell, I wore the darn thing for just about every activity. The hat ribbon's pretty much done and it looks like a wilted leaf now. I doubt it's seen any kind of care since it was made, but because I love this hat so much, it's about to take a trip to Optimo to get a good cleanup. I've tried to date it since I got it a while back without any success. When was the last decade that these were manufactured, does anyone know? Here's a pic I took with it last year.
