Knox 100 photos...

Apparently I misstepped on the photos on first try. Here goes again...

Just got my Knox 100. At least, that was what I was hoping for after it was shared with me that some folks thought the hat being sold on ebay as a Knox 100 might not, in fact, be a 100. Something just didn't look or feel right about the hat, it was said.

So I was a little aprehensive when the box arrived and I began to open it. My reaction? Woooooooooow! As you'll see below, there's doubtless - at least to me - any question as to it's authenticity. But opinions of those more learned than I are warranted. It's my first Knox, and it looks to me like I might have their finest example of hatmaking - for $28.50. The detail is magnificent, even down to the embroidered Knox logo on the wind trolley button. Well, see for yourself...

The hat is just as it arrived. It looks like the top was smushed down at some point, and as soon as I practice steaming an old Dobbs I've got, I'll carefully try this one.

Inside sweatband on on side is written "Teck & Marks" and "Alf" or "C Alf" (the hatmaker?) and on the other "8457 Knox 100" and a word the looks like "cus tom" or some such. Any idea what 8457 means? It's not the block #, because that's on the tag below.

What kind of edge is this? The underside is completely smooth. Is this Knox's equivalent of the Cavanagh edge? It says "Custom Edge" on the sweatband.
Oh, yeah, best thing is it fits great. I gotta tell ya, I was giddy to the point of lightheadedness most of last night. I'm counting my blessings on this one.
I post pix later of my Borsalino that just arrived, as well as the Resistol straw and Penny's Marathon I'm so happy with. Still waiting for my English Imperial Stetson, but it's coming from the Netherlands and could be several more weeks.

Photos work now!

That is a beautiful hat, Snrbfshn! You can see the quality of the felt in the photos. Man, that looks smoooooth. Looks to be in really good shape. Wow, I still can't believe what a deal you got.

I think the seller's photo kept people from bidding on it, but that's to your benefit. Looking at the liner, it doesn't ever appear to have been worn.

Yes, that Knox's Cav edge there. Congrats on a fine, fine hat!

A beautiful hat.

You got the real deal on that beauty. The hat sure looks good on you. I guess you could say it was custom made just for you. I'm glad you won the auction and ended up with a classic vintage fedora. :cheers1:

Congrats! That is a beautiful hat!

Sometimes we luck out on ebay because the seller either does not know what he/she is selling, puts it in the wrong category where some lucky soul stumbles across it, or does not display the item correctly and bidders are scared off by it.

Looks like you lucked out big time. Good for you. Enjoy your vintage fedora!

Beautiful hat at an unbelievable price - well done! You're not likely to find another one like it anytime soon...at least at THAT price. Congratulations. :cheers1:

Very good hat indeed. The price was right and you definitely found a nice hat there. The features that make it a 100 are pretty obvious. You mentioned a few of them already. The extra plastic under the sweatband to prevent sweat from going through to the felt is a nice touch. The Cavanagh edge is great as well as the special liner, premium sweatband and detailed ribbon.
All hats of this grade might as well have been custom. They were handled only by the most experienced craftsmen of the shop. Much of the stitching finishing and blocking (if it was preblocked) was done by hand---usually by the same master hatter. Looks like Teck and Marks either special ordered it for a client or they simply ordered a Knox 100 for stock. If I said it before I will say it again---very nice hat. :cheers1:

Regards to all,

J
