Do you tool leather yourself?

I am a custom hat maker. On most of my hats I use vintage ribbon but if a client requests it I will make a custom leather band. My skills are very modest and tend to keep it very simple. So I greatly admire people such as yourself with that high skill level.

While shopping for a fish filet knife for my son-in-law and a really good boning knife for my wife, I pulled out the 1975'ish Buck 123 filet knife I had in my fishing tackle box. Unfortunately(?), given I almost never land fish, it's in almost mint condition. Maybe now that I'm actively fly-fishing, it'll get some use.

Classix are always a good idea imho, here´s a Buck 110.

This is my first good quality knife. My wife bought it for me almost 50 years ago. I still have it next to me on my desk.

Just another classic workhorse, 12cm bladed Laguiole by FDL, all stainless steel construction, ebony plates, T12 steel, razor sharp, often used during vacations all around Europe...

How would they compare to a Case?

Schatt & Morgan's made by Queen at "that time" were there top of the line. So I'd say S&M were Better. In general.

I will get a nice versatile Walther Pro EDK (EveryDayKnife), the next days. There's a store in the next big city, got it on stock. It's an affordble/versatile mix with a 75 mm blade of 440C stainless steel.

I think they are just nicer than the average Case. However I have some earlier 70's Case stockman's that are very nice. These are just super retro and have some really nice handle and bolster options.

That said I carry a Case every day!

Now, the handle is better than I thought. Very simple, very grippy! And like I said, the nice thing about it, is the totally versatile mediocre size. The manufacturing quality seems clean. It comes with a small, sturdy Canvas-like holster.

BUT!:
When you hold it in your hand, the first time, you're surprised, that it's appearance is really more massive than you thought from the pics on the net, I tell you! This is def. not a kiddy knife!
Of course a german "42 conform" two hand knife.

Blade (coated) 75 mm, overall length 182 mm. Steel is 440 C (industry) stainless steel.

This is pretty much exact to the one I have. Made by Fontenille Petaud. I have another with a Walnut handle.

I have a few Case folders. I buy them based on the handle colours! My favourite is a red Kickstarter.
