This photograph of John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Dwight David Eisenhower walking won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961.

I love the photo and can't help wondering what hat President Eisenhower is carrying.

I remember reading that Ike had a valet & the valet had to hold Ike's drawers so he (Ike) could step into them. Eisenhower is a verrrry distant cousin of mine. So is Betsy Ross. And Winston Churchill.

2 presidents who were pretty sharp dressers. When Ike retired from the army, wrote his book, and had his big payday, he could finally afford to dress well, and he did. He had a couple hundred suits, and had many given to him. JFK, of course, was style all the while. When Ike became president, there were very hostile feelings between him and Harry Truman, but when JFK took over the reins he went out of his way to show respect to the outgoing president, and often sought his counsel.
I know I'm dating myself, but it seems like only yesterday . . .
