Those fights were unbelievably brutal, going on, sometimes for over 50 rounds! I remember, hearing about one where the one boxer asked for a time out to sew his ear back on and to put his eye ball back in it's socket, the ref said no and the fight went on for two more rounds.

I just realized some thing, when the fights were over and all the WASPs went back to their all Gentlemen clubs, nether John L. Sullivan or John Arthur ("Jack") Johnson would be allowed through the front door!
