Kangaroo Woo Hoo!

So I've been very enamored of kangaroo leather ever since getting a pair of Geier gloves a few years ago. Remarkably strong for the thinness, supple and has shown virtually no wear over 5 years of regular use.

I figured a kangaroo jacket would be great as well, but the majority are in the motorcycle style, which I cannot pull off.

Had heard that Aero has occasionally offered kangaroos and so I contacted the amazing Carrie at Thurston Bros who confirmed that Aero had just enough for perhaps one more jacket.

Here is the result:

I picked the Teamster design and it came out exactly as I pictured a leather jacket should look in my mind!
The smell of the leather coming out of the box was intoxicating.

The details I asked for were executed perfectly:

And cuffs like on the Aeromarine:

The overall leather color is tough to capture. It is a dark brown with red undertones.

Unlike my gloves the jacket is surprisingly stiff. Compared to my Aero Highwayman in FQHH, I'd say kangaroo is half as stiff. Compared to the sample of Vicenza that Carrie sent, rooskin is twice as stiff. Thus it is a happy medium between FQHH & Vicenza!

Very pleased with the process and the result! Hopefully Aero will one day offer kangaroo leather again and in different finishes.

Fantastic jacket! Great work with that order and you certainly have a unique, one-of-a-kind jacket there!

The color variations are really nice. When it gets broken in, the edgings are going to look fantastic. Beautiful jacket.

Absolutely beautiful jacket! I love that leather. I guess I'm lucky they no longer have any or might of had to pull the trigger on another jacket.

Nice. In the days when we had a master leather bike jacket maker in Melbourne I had a long half-belt made in roo just like it but with a zip. Wore it for 15plus years but never managed to break it in. We sell all our roo hide to overseas manufacturers I was told so paradoxically it is hard to get here now. Yours looks like it will soften up and has probably been treated/tanned differently than mine.

Don't have a good scale for accuracy, but it weighs between a 2.5lb and a 5lb hand weight. For a size 48 jacket, it is easily my lightest leather. It seems a bit lighter than my 2oz horsehide A2.

Lovely looking hide. I've toyed with the idea of that for a Summer jacket; sounds like it has a similar feel to goat?

Roo is a fantastic hide, wears really well, strong stuff too. Mate back in Oz has a 20-something year old roo jacket which looks bloody superb.

Wear the absolute hell out of it, it'll look all the better for it.

Great looking hide and a great looking jacket. But I'm surprised that our members in Australia have and like the Kangaroo hide jackets. I thought the Roo was their national animal, like the Bald Eagle is our national bird?
