Having SEEN the inside of this hat, I'd say it's from around the same time
as the Sovereign Ambassador- early 50s.

This is a nice hat. Keep it.

keep it, i have two stetson sovereigns from the same time (same liner) they have braided bands though, and they are a somewhat fuzzy felt. very nice hats. you wont get anything for it at clothing stores near you. someone told me mine would get maybe fifteen bucks. thats his max purchase price for hats, by the way.

also, not to thread jack, what years had the braided band and not the bow? is that a special model, or something?

Thank you for the info! You are always very helpful FeltFan. I will put a teardrop in it. I think the proportions will suit me better than some of my previous fedoras. I went from 2 3/4 to currently wearing 2 1/2-2 5/8 brim due to Art's advice.

I was really sick and lost a lot of weight so I have been gaining it back. At my sickest point I was about 113 pounds and every hat was too big. I am doing much better now and filling myself out again.

He said he was absolutely sure the brim was 2 1/2. So I trust him. The brim is curled up and it has such a high crown so it may looker shorter in the pics. I think this hat will suit me very well. Thank you all.

It is a nice hat. Congrats.

The liner is consistent with early to mid 60's (the use of color in the medallion logo, as well as in the lettering of the logo itself, is a tipoff). If the box is original to the hat, it is also consistent with this time period. So, I would put this hat in the early 60's range.

Cheers,
JtL

Is the felt still high quality even though it is from the late 50's or 60's?
Does the brim looks 2 1/2 to you, or is this another case of an Ebay seller being inaccurate?

yours,

the 2nd-place finisher in the auction :D.

Thank you. I honestly feel bad now as I know what it is like to really want a fedora on ebay and not get it. If I have any spare vintage fedoras at my parents house in a similar style I will send it to you for free. Next time I visit them I will look. ;) I have been in your shoes many times so I know what it is like. PM if you want a specific style and give me your address. All the fedoras I wear are at my house.

Haha, don't worry - I didn't want to put in a max bid because 7 1/4 is actually one below my real head size.

I have a couple of beaters that I'll be sending off to Optimo for a good refurbishing, and despite the hat not being my size, I really liked it and figured I'd pick it up if I could get it cheap enough, and then send it along with the other two to the Chicago boys and see how it'd come out after a reblock&resize. Ah well, will have to wait until I find something else fitting :D.

Perhaps you should be flexible and give it a try? 2 3/8 is hardly that stingy, and it is an extremely nice hat.

If you're extremely picky, ebay isn't the place to go.

You are so right!
I really like a wider brim, but when I recieved my Knox Vagabond it was a 2 3\8s brim.
MAN... I have to tell you I love that hat!!!

I still prefer a wider brim... but the Vagabond has a place on my rack and head !!
