Fit is slightly snug--can I loosen the fit of a Panama or am the victim of irreversible straw shrinkage? :(

Nice looking Panama, AlanC.

To the best of my knowlege, I do not think that it is possible to increase the size of a Panama hat. However, I could indeed be wrong. [huh]

Cuenca brisa, awesome tight weave and color.

My friends in Ecuador go up 2-3-4 sizes on their panamas, though they are the people who've made them. They tear them down, heat them up with an iron (with what seems like forever!) and then pull them over the new block and iron some more and more.

If you are only going up a bit, why not try a hat stretcher? I'm sure there are much more expert individuals here on stretching hats than I am, but I've had success in small increments on a small hat stretcher.

Thanks for the information, Bob. The fit is close, but just a little snug. It would be more comfortable loosened some, so it wouldn't need to be stretched much.

Oh, and I'll still be in touch with an order. I'm still figuring out what I want to get. :)
