I posted these photos on the shoe stretching thread but wanted to show them off here as well.I love the look of these shoes!!!
And now that they are wearable,i hope to flash them around town soon.

I hope to eventually find a pair of brown/white Allen-Edmonds broadstreets someday.

This shoe collecting habit is getting out of control!!!
Now i know how Imelda Marcos felt!!!

Excellent score, Jim--you're outta control!

FYI, I believe that the name 'Broadstreet' refers specifically to the model name of the Allen Edmonds spectator rather than to spectators in general. Your vintage J&M Aristocrafts are likely in the same league with modern AEs. Sadly, they don't make J&Ms like that anymore. :(

I really want a pair of specs.

I have only polished them

It has always been difficult to polish spectator shoes. I was told that in the golden era, shoeshiners charged a higher fee for the service.

.

I have not had to use wax yet.It will hopefully be awhile.I will treat them well,i assure you.

I have yet to wear them out and about.Should be fun!!

Jim, where did you get your shoe stretchers? I got some AE burgundy wingtips that were mis-listed as 11.5D, while in fact they're 11.5Bs. I didn't pay enough for them to be worth trying to send them back to the seller, so I thought I might try stretching them out.

Buying nice shoos can get VERY addictive. l know what it's like to lose control. lf it wasn't for my girl, i'd spend alot more on shoos. One year l bought nearly 20 pairs at an average of $500.00 - 600.00 Aust each. l'm a real shoo junkie....shoos and women are my drug. lol

lt's lucky you live over in your land. Australia has no such bargains. AE and J&M are as rare as hens teeth here. Lobb has been priced out of the market here, and Church has disgusted themselves to almost extinction here. The best made shoos in Oz are Santoni handmades (tan sock), followed by Edward Green, followed by C&J Handgrade. With the close of the Borrelli store has gone the availability of many nive Norgvegese constructed Mantellassi handmades. They never had any Mantelassi's in my size ever. The Borrelli store is closing, Mantellassi handmades are now reduced from $1,800 Aust to around $650.00 now. An absolute bargain! The Borrelli store even had a pair of norvegese constructed Alligator bluchers for $10,500 Aust.

I've been admiring spectators for a while, but I'm still at a loss as to how on earth you'd polish those without getting brown polish in all the brogueing where the white is so beautifully shining through right now!

you could always use neutral polish. i bought a beeswax/neatsfoot oil cream designed for leather furniture. works perfectly.

As the late great James Brown said "When I say hit it... hit it - and when I say quit it... quit it - don't you go no further now!" The last bit refers to the pocket book. James did not have our problem.
