Johnson Leathers Let Down :( Re-Line Job

Kind of shocked to be writing this as my Lost Worlds jacket is on it's second trip back to SF for its' re-line / re-zip. Positive news first, the Re-zip was as good as can be expected on such a heavy heavy. Perfectly acceptable on a black MC jacket. But this was how my re-line arrived with the lovely green Harris Tweed I sourced. Going to be an awesome jacket once re-paired again / albeit with more stitch holes ;( They said they copied the existing lining pattern, but it looks like almost 2" of excess fabric at the shoulder and bottom. Feels all bunched up /sloppy when worn. My 3 Aeros with Harris Tweed are perfectly tight in the lining so Im surprised no one caught this before it went out to me. Given the JL reputation and repair cost, this should have perfect. Fingers crossed on the 2nd attempt!

And you have to pay shipping on both way by yourself?

Johnson Leather's is covering this round trip as it's clearly their error. And it will get worked on as soon as it arrives. Just frustrating when something doesn't arrive as expected especially when the biz has a long established reputation of high quality work. Everyone has their off days I guess, but I've been the bearer of bad luck lately ;(.

Why not LW for the alteration?

Figured it would be a quicker turnaround from JL but in the end now it will be the same

JL has a new owner taken it over few months ago, I read this somewhere on Instagram, don't know if it has some impact to them.

No kidding? That's big news, I'm surprised we didn't hear about it. Is Alan still involved in operations?

I think the day yo day is now handled by Alan’s second Lieutenant. I know this person, been with Alan a long time. Alan still comes in most of the week & oversees jobs

Did it have a much lighter/thinner lining before?

I guess if a thin lining were replaced with something substantially thicker you might have an issue like this, but as you say you'd think someone would've thought 'that doesn't quite look right.'

Should look great when this is fixed though, nice tweed.

It actually had just about the same total thickness before putting in the tweed. Only difference was that apparently Lost Worlds quilted fabric isn't backed with thinsulate material but with a thin foam instead. So shiny nylon / stitched in a quilted pattern over thin foam.

Still have high hopes for this beautiful lining once it gets put in properly. Lovely shade of moss green.

The quilted pattern may be the problem when JL simply took out your old lining, place it on the table and cut your tweed along the old lining.

You are correct and going from a quilt lining the slightly heaver tweed created the problem. We should have caught this but we did not and this was an error on my part. I will correct this once we receive the customers jacket.

Thanks Alan. I know you guys will make it right. Main reason I trusted you to perform minor surgery on this awesome Lost Worlds jacket instead of anyone else! Looking forward to getting this one on my back finally. Should be a superb end of riding season jacket here in the NE.

FYI to wrap this up. Jacket arrived back to me after Johnson leather's rework and it's good to go now! Lining is how it should be. They also sent me some of the old Lost Worlds lining so I could see how crazy it was. Three layers, white cotton base/foam/nylon sateen. Almost wonder if this was originally auto "headliner" material. Makes sense that copying that existing pattern and using a normal thinner liner would result in sloppy fit but someone should have caught that before mailing it back. Zipper replacement job came out as good as expected on such a heavy hide. Not crazy noticeable with black on black but a brown hide jacket would be. Oh well, happy in the end and this makes an excellent cold weather cafe racer jacket now!

Hey, that looks really great. I'm glad it worked out. Johnson does good work, and gives great service when called upon. All's well that ends well.
