Yeah the naked one is the one I had. I like the top coat one too but it is a little more stiff and the color depth iirc wasn't as good. Sigh, hello rabbit hole, we meet again.

It’s beautiful. All of the ‘base’ hides were, which felt like vindication of my long held feeling that these vendors know what they’re doing when it comes to sourcing.

For sure, Horween, Shinki, etc are amazing in their own right, but I think for many it becomes a meeting your heroes situation in that the reality isn't all the great, much like raw denim. The stock steerhide is a great leather and will last generations with proper upkeep, and it has a great hand feel as well.

Yup that’s shrunken grain horsehide. JL sourced this custom tannage from Horween, can’t wait to get it!

Theyve also posted a shrunken grain bison in cherry red this morning, I have a feeling it belongs to @red devil here,

Working on further breaking in this Horween Steerhide JL jacket that was very generously passed to me by Canuck Panda. I tried to capture color and sleeve creases on picture 2 but it proves impossible with that 8 year old phone camera of mine. While it looks grey on pictures, it is in fact a beautiful mixture of blue, green and shades of brown, probably best summed up as „teacore petrol“

Nice rolls on the sleeves. Every time I move away from thicker hides, these pics pull me back in…. Thinner hides just don‘t roll like the thicker ones. Great job breaking it in.

There‘s nothing like velvet soft yet incredibly thick leather, I love the break-in process just for the sake of getting there. Thick sleeve creases, the heft and yet soft to the hand. Not quite there yet with this one, sleeves are well broken-in but the body is still quite stiff, especially the front.

Here are a couple of pictures of my latest JL CXL HH jacket. Overall it is gorgeous jacket and the leather is...well CXL, still stiff but it's getting better. But I have the nagging suspicion that the hide on the left sleeve is a bit thinner than the one on the right. The rolls look different. Other than that, which I'll verify with a caliper, the jacket is JL great

Jacket looks great. Leather is a natural product, it is very possible that there is some variation in thickness but it is plenty thick regardless and will last forever. Creases will never look identical regardless of leather thickness, dont worry about that.

Looks great! Congrats. The button holes will get easier after a ton of use. Nice classy design.

This leather is amazing. Shrunken grain horsehide from Horween. JL sourced this leather. I've seen this leather before used on TM jackets but never knew its source. Thanks to JL for this amazing leather. It's maybe 3.5oz give or take, surprisingly pliable. The shrunken grain is wild, it's got it all, big grains small grains butt grains and all very pronounced.

This jacket pattern is based off the Barneveld Remix, which to me, is really a civilian CHP type jacket. Very good pattern, they know what they're doing. I have two different sizes of this pattern and both are pretty good. There is action pleats hidden behind the mouton panel, great mobility.

Exit jacket, chapter one.
