It's like a mixture of Schott, Bates and Columbia. It's got three separate belt loops on the back, but also a detachable belt. It's also got brass hardware it seems. Have always liked the jacket but no one seems to make anything similar to it. Without going full on custom. It also looks to be horsehide perhaps??

I've always wondered about it. Slow day at work here and this is the most knowledgeable leather jacket forum around.

I want too many jackets. It's a sickness. LOL

I have no idea who made it, but I agree that it’s a nice motorcycle style jacket. It’s interesting that the front is relatively plain, given the detachable belt and three loops on the back.

Yes! Its very cool. I can't find one like it. I might get one custom. Along with my Schott, then the Aero I want. The sad part is I barely get usage out of them here in Florida. Pride of ownership though. There is something to be said for that.

You might talk to Langlitz since it looks very similar to a basic two pocket Columbia with epaulets and a belt. As far as the back, I am having a hard time making out the shoulder configuration as the photo is a bit grainy but it looks to me like this one might have shoulder grommets, and I am almost positive that is something Langlitz will not do.
Johnson Leathers in SF would be another option. I think they would probably be more open to reviewing photographs of the jacket with you and doing their best to re-create it exactly.
Cool project, I’m looking forward to seeing how this one goes!

From the look of the epaulettes I’d gues alongside Guppy and also mention Branded garments. They squared off the epaulettes too.

The jacket doesn't have a coin pocket, if I remember correctly. No idea what it is, though.

I remember there was some research over on the Filmjacketsforum way back when. A jacket was auctioned off but the catalogue didn't mention the brand. It gets a mention in this thread on the Schott website too...

If this is purported to be "Screen worn by Johnny Depp", you'd think they'd have taken two minutes to google an image and find out that the 'Cry Baby' legend was indeed in place in the film!

No, it's basically got the three-pocket Perfecto look minus the coin pocket on the front, but the back is of course a clear giveaway it's not a Schott.

Several characters in the film wear a lancer-front jacket in roughly this style, though I don't believe any two are the same. FWIW, the film's budget - USD12 million - wasn't exactly sky-high for shooting in 1989, so I would suspect the jackets were probably picked up used rather than it having been made for the film. I would suspect that John Waters would also have favoured used/ vintage over new.

They all seem to come from the same place, and most have coin pockets. They look pretty much like the Pocket Columbia by Langlitz IMO.

Langlitz doesn’t square off the epaulettes like that. Those epaulettes are the give away as is the back panel. I think it’s a lesser quality jacket tbh.

EDIT NOTE by Peacoat: I have taken your message out of the quote by Mandarin so it stands by itself. PC
