Has anyone seen this movie? I watched it on the Sundance channel. Not a bad little film. Based on fact, it tells the story of a writer for the New Yorker who encounters an eccentric homeless Harvard graduate who is writing an "Oral History of The World in the 1940s/50s NYC. The movie touched on the nature of mental illness, creativity, success, and the the nature of charity.
The film is directed by Stanley Tucci and stars Tucci, Ian Holm, Susan Sarandon, and Steve Martin in a cameo.
It is worth a viewing.

I brought it home on video because I love the cast, the story, the period, the setting, etc.
However, I was disappointed.:(

Sincerely,
The Wolf

I watched this on one of the cable movie channels also. Although I liked the cast and thought the performances were good, I was a little disappointed in the movie after reading the book. It seems like that is often the case for me.

If you are fan of Joseph Mitchell's writing, Joe Gould's Secret is not to be missed.
