I thought it would be nice to showcase our jewellery and watches, cufflinks et cetera.

My art deco necklace, given as a gift for being a good friend. The chain is platinum -

It definitely is.
I'm always a little nervous with jewelry, but I also like to think that if anyone tries to mug me I'll stomp on them with my stilettos, that'll teach 'em!lol

Here are some of the brooches that I've collected over the years:

6.jpg

Some are antique, most are vintage. Some are costume, some are not. Some items of note - the brass flower at the top right-hand page is teens/1920s era from China. Underneath it, the red star is all real garnet stones from the 1940s. Underneath that are a set of 1940s gold scatter pins - each one has a small stone in the center - a pearl, ruby, sapphire, and diamond. The large woven and beaded bow on the middle right hand side, is all hand woven from very thin wire, similar to mourning jewelry woven from hair. I think it is from the turn of the century.

this is my new favorite thread! i collect costume jewelry. not for the maker or value. i just buy stuff i like and stuff that i will wear. i have also inherited some pieces from family members. my grandma used to work for a dept store downtown in the jewelry dept in the late 40's early 50s and she got stuff all the time while working there. i got her favorite pieces after she passed away. what is really sad is that when i was about 10 yrs old, she had a yard sale and sold most of her costume jewelry from the 40's and 50's. i remember setting it up on the table to be sold. oh, if i could only get a time machine!
this is only a fraction of my collection. but this is mostly the stuff i've inherited.

ohhhh bebop...i LOVE that pin on the bottom right corner with all the primary colored flowers! so jealous.

It's made of tiny, glass flowers all individually wired on to the base. another cheap garage sale/flea market find from my mother! We are all amatuers in her presence!

Leatte - Your collection is so pretty! I'm amazed at how white and bright all of your rhinestones are. A lot of the rhinestone pieces that I have have started to dull over the years. I especially like the dogwood blossom brooch, it's lovely. I'm a sucker for any costume jewelry that has flowers or animals on it.

thanks! that dogwood pin is made of porcelin. i got that at an antique store for a few bucks. i don't run across many jewelry pieces that are made of porcelein. so i had to have it. it looks really pretty on the color brown. i have a brown sweater it looks nice on.

as for keeping my stones clear, i have no idea how i do it. they are stored in a jewelry hanging bag that is made of tarnish free fabric. maybe that's the key. i got the cases off QVC. they have tons of tiny little pockets and hang up. you get 3 cases in the set.

i'm really picky when i buy pieces though. if it's not in mint perfect shape, i don't buy it.

Wow, even neater. I have one piece of porcelein jewelry myself. It's a Wedgewood necklace that we think my husband's great aunt bought on a trip in the early 60s. It's a big wedgewood blue heart-shaped pendant with a white cherub on it. I don't wear it often because I'm not really a fan of cherubs, but it is a pretty little piece of art.

Well, I'll be taking photos tonight!

Folly, I especially love that deco necklace and the pin with the pearls in heart shapes.

BeBopBaby--that bow pin on the left near the bottom is so sweet!

Leaette--you're so lucky to have inherited such lovely pieces! The emerald green set is stunning, I adore the initial pin (do you know what name it stands for?), and I love the pin under the earrings in your first photo.

thanks imoldfashioned! the pin under the earrings belonged to that grandma i talked about who worked in the dept store. my aunt had it and she just gave it to me last month saying that i would like it better than her.

the initial pin belongs to my husband's grandmother. she is still alive and will be 97 this october. they are her initials. her name is isabel.
i wish you could still get those pins made. it's so pretty. the stones are in perfect shape and are so sparkly. it's just a shame though because i will never wear it. if it were my own gramma, i'd wear it.

my sister is borrowing one of my grandma's necklaces for her wedding in october. that will be her "something old". i have a few more that i didn't put in the picture.

Here's the contents of my jewelry box:

buckles.jpg

1920s marcasite shoe buckles, 1930's trifari enameled pin lower right, 1930s marcasite initial pin upper right (belonged to my friend's grandmother Lillian who gave it to me). The gold and carnelian ring at the lower left belonged to my Danish great-great-grandmother and is one of two heirloom pieces of jewelry I own.

clips.jpg

Earrings on the left, all screwback or clip-on. Mostly dress clips/Duettes on the right. The bottom pin is a Florenza piece with a dark purple stone in the center. On the bottom right is an enameled charm that was made for the coronation of George V.

bracelets.jpg

Vintage Trifari bracelets on the top and bottom. My beloved silver Danecraft bracelet, heart locket and vintage Coro black enameled locket. The rhinestone bracelet on the right is unmarked but gorgeous--wish it photographed more clearly. The floral pin came on a dress I bought for free.

locketsinside.jpg

Closer views of two of my favorite pieces. The black Coro piece opens to hold 4 photos (but I can't bring myself to replace the vintage ones!) and the commemorative has 6 pictures of the King, Queen, Prince, etc. This is under an inch tall.

ring.jpg

My second heirloom piece from my great aunt Louise. I originally thought this was a costume ring but I was told by a jeweler that it is platinum with small diamonds and an emerald. The emerald is pretty badly chipped--I thought someday I'd have it replaced but it's grown on me. I wish the picture were better--it's hard to photograph jewelry!
