Jacket you “should” like?

Has this happened to anyone else?
You see a jacket, order it up, you open the box, and it’s everything you expected it to be buuuuuut…
It just isn’t “your jacket”?
As I sift through my closet doing some sorting I find some that I’ve;

A) moved passed the style, or

B) “it shrank..."

but then I have a couple that are very nice, fit well, but just ain’t doing it for me?

I don’t like wearing double riders, cross zips, anything double breasted or with big collars, no matter how good I think they look when I’m not wearing them

Also nothing with big armholes, or no loose fitting jackets for that matter

Ha! I can jump in on this and add the photos & links for when they were listed for sale.
I'm not as much of a revolving door of jackets as some but I certainly have had my share of "turning up my nose" at a very nice, over-the-top jacket. Here's just a few as reminders of "errors" from the past - positively called Learning experiences. :)

#1 Aero Ridley Cordovan with Nickle hardware - 2020 Custom made for me - but not for me.

Super-Grainy Aero Ridley 3-pocket, that was just too small. (2019 - sold to Australia)

One I actually really DO miss these days, an Off the Rack from Thurston Brothers Steerhide Brown Highwayman with a spectacular lining. Also in 2019. Hardley even tried it on before it went for sale. Never gave it the chance it deserved. :(

Another one that hurts, especially as it fit even better than the brown HWM above it - Size "42 Black "Heavy Steerhide" sold in the early days of the Pandemic of 2020.

Here's one I forgot about, an Oil-Pull Brown Steer HWM, interesting how the leather looked & felt on this one. It was in 2018 that I had this one.

Of course, we can't forget the "oddly heavy" Bootlegger, that I actually owned twice (!!) Wow that Fedora Lounge Effect is real. Too short of arms for me, but 10+ lbs of the thickest, grainiest hide. No idea where it is at now. 2017 & 2021 owned years. :)

Just one last one, of quite a few others. Another Off the Rack jacket from Thurston's that I bought direct from Carrie in person at their shop in Seattle while it was still open. I tried, and tried to love this black '30's Half-belt, but it just never was really "my jacket." Owned this one for ~ 5 years from 2015 - 2020, but it was not "the one" as they say.

Looking back, I suppose this forum being used as basically a repository of nearly all the leather & denim jacket's I've owned since I joined is a good thing. Lessons learned, adventures, at least of sort that we've had or patterns, styles, brands and leathers we have all tried out. I try not to get discouraged at the dollars I have spent, as I have rarely if ever "made money" at this hobby. I am just thankful to be learning among others who enjoy these crazy things like I do. Many people thought I was crazy through my life for this hobby, but not here! :)

For cross zips, they need to start in the middle and zip off to the side. If they start on the right and just go up, I’m not interested.
I have a high tolerance for long sleeves, but short ones are a “nope”.
And pockets… if you’re losing knuckle skin on the zipper every time you dig out your wallet, that’s a real bummer.

I mostly get bored of it but it's also about whether it actually adds to who I am. My biggest mistake was going for that biker style. I bought a lot of moto jackets and neither one felt like it was me.

On the other hand, after getting into cowboy boots, I can't seem to switch to any other type of footwear. I'm much less of a cowboy than a biker but these boots just feel right.

Agreed. I’ve owned a couple beauties that had either sleeves that were too short or a back length that rode above my belt. As much as I liked the jackets, I kept tugging at the sleeves or the back hem, and it wasn’t long before I realized they weren’t for me.

There are many factors here. Appreciating a design but not taking into account your body type. Liking certain details but not thinking about your own comfort.
Ironically my most worn jackets are the ones that were least anticipated to be good fits for me. I spent too much time and money hunting jackets that I will never wear.

I still have some feelings of regret selling this Legendary USA Black Stallion built by Schott . It fit me well enough, it was hard to obtain so it was a journey , etc, but the shiny HH I just could not get past. Kept it two years and just was not grabbing it to wear .
