Jacket re-waxing

Hey all. I have a Freenote Rider Jacket as well as a Ten c m65 I am wanting to get rewaxed. Does anyone know a good place in Canada to get this done? Thanks in advance.

They are waxed jackets. “Someone” washed them so they are not waxed anymore.

Do it yourself. Just know it will be smelly, a little messy and be careful with the heat gun, likely best to do it in your garage or outside if practical. Works for any make about the same.

Cool. Good to hear. You can order the Filson wax pretty cheaply and it shouldn't take too much to get it on there again.

I have the same Freenote Cloth one as you, mine is black and I really like it.

I did my two old Barbour jackets a few years ago. Put the tin of wax in a pan of water (Bain Marie!) on very low heat on the stove to keep it melted. Quite relaxing really and I had a waterproof hand afterwards!

Before you go to the trouble of re-waxing, try your jacket on to see if it still fits.

Most of these jackets are made of cotton with an exterior wax finish. In the wild, if the wax gets worn off and the jacket is rained on, it sometimes shrinks. That's why my wife and I keep our Barbours up to date on the wax treatment.

I'm my experience waxed fabric that gets machine washed is essentially knackered, unfortunately.

You can re-wax it, but it never recovers the properties it has from manufacture. In the same way as you can wax any plain cotton garment, but it won't behave like waxed cotton.

Well I tried the Freenote one and thankfully it did not turn out horrible. I actually think it will look really good when cured. One step that someone told me is to put it in a hot Sauna when you apply the wax for about 20 min and then let it cool in there. ( Which I happen to have in my back yard ) The wax seemed to really sink into the fabric. Will take some pics of the finished product when it cures.

I enjoy the waxing if the Barbour.
Day 2 i go over it with a blow dryer and use a dish sponge to even out the wax.
