Thought I'd bump this, since J. Crew is selling them again, with the light blue chambray sold in stores and khaki and faded black online. Think I'll bite the bullet this time and buy one of 'em...

This is exactly the sort of shirt I've been looking for. Unfortunately that price is exorbitant!

Just wait for the sale!

I find it amusing that the website offers this vintage workshirt w/ an optional monogram.

I don't care so much about the collar band, though it is a cool feature. I just want to find good copies of the USN ones from around the time of WWII, without having to shell out buzz rickson type funds for them. When it comes to chambrey, it's all about the material... they call all kinds of stuff chambrey now. They should start somewhat dark too and gradually fade like good demin, is my understanding. The JCRew one looks good and Levis LVC had a good one too last year, again $98 though.

This one says it's Navy style. Not surplus or reproduction but style. Not big bucks and it might meet your needs.

Hey just a note guys, that chambrey shirt from JCrew that's pictured in this thread is not technically a "true" chambrey.. that is to say that it is not made with an actual Indigo dye like originals. JCrew does offer this feature in another shirt though...it's a lighter shade of blue than the one posted here. Something about the first one posted here looks better to me though. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter, just pointing it out.

Y'know, I just can't get my mind around the concept of a yuppie outfit like J.Crew selling depression-era workshirts. It seems so wrong...

On another note, for great images of a very authentic depression-era look, I highly recommend the TV series Carnivale.

I kinda of see it both ways, I mean it's a shame that work wear now days is represented by the quality of the average Walmart's gear, for the most part and that's all that's expected from the average joe nowadays. That's not the way it used to be. Quality used to be king, not anymore. The way I look at it is that JCrew is just smart enough to recognize how cool the old quality stuff was and that nobody else is offering it cheaper which is why they are able to ask what they do for it. Society has relaxed to the point that what was once considered work wear is now acceptable to be worn by everyone.. back in the day I guess those that weren't wearing "work wear" were wearing suits. Even if I had the means to aford the suits, I think I'd prefer the quality work wear just for comfort's sake.

Picked one up on eBay and yuppie outfit or not it's a great looking well made shirt, and has some very authentic 30's details.
