It's the small things in life...

As i said to someone the other day, sometimes picking up vintage suits for peanuts makes me feel like crap. "This was the suit my grandfather wore on his wedding day in 1939", they tell me. $30? I'll take it.

Oh, well. I saved it from the scrap heap.

. . .

Nice links, Henrik . . . finally got to see 'em ;)

Terrific hand-me-down -- absolutely wear 'em proudly!

I have nothgin whatever from my grandfathers, but, as my dad retired some years ago and rarely dresses to the nines anymore, I do have his cufflinks. Interestingly, because he played poker regularly for several decades, one stem of each of the real gold pairs is bent (from resting the wrist on the table while holding his hole cards)!

giving a girl's perspective here:

it's nice to see something more durable than just clothes being passed down. women have had handbags and jewels to pass on since the beginning of time; it's nice to see the gents be able to partake of such a great family tradition.

:eek:fftopic:

about family heirlooms being sold: i would much rather see somebody who will preserve an item buy it and use it than have it sit in the box somewhere unseen and unappreciated. that's just my take on it.

Good point. Don't forget, though, that watches are also often passed down. I expect to be wearing Grandpa's Omega some day (not too soon though, I hope!)

Thanks for all the nice comments!

@Mr. Rover: Usually, I only wear them at formal events or family celebrations so I won't get that intoxicated when I wear them.;)

Regards,
Henrik
