It's all in the attitude

It is pretty simple, most of us under ordinary circumstances don't consider the idea of giving somebody a hard time. We basically want everyone to be happy and if they aren't then to at least have the consideration not to "screw with" people. SOme people on the other hand have to "screw with" people, to annoy, harrass, make them them butt end of a joke or a prank. These people have the disposition that they can't be happy unless somebody else having a hard time, and the butt heads like to be the ones giving the hard time to somebody. Reasonable people know there is no need but the butt heads can't understand any live and let live approach.

Mistakes and bad things can happen, things can get out of hand easily, but it is the looking for trouble attitude I don't understand.

It's kinda like when driving and some maniac is driving really irresponsibly and dangerously, you simply try to hold off and say, with a little luck they'll run into somebody doing the same thing, hopefully none of the innocent get hurt in between.

Sometimes trouble just comes looking for you.

It's hard to dispute any of that, John. Suffice it to say that some people are just plain miserable and they won't rest until they make others as miserable as they are. Still, I've come to regret it every time I've taken their bait. (It's kind of hard to call someone a pig while I'm wallowing in the slop.) I must still have a bit of a chip on my shoulder, I suppose, but it's nowhere near so big a chip as it used to be. And hey, I've been thrown in jail only once. Not a bad record, considering some of the stuff I used to do.

Was at the doctor's yesterday and saw a black man 65-70 with a fedora similar to a Dobbs-type, black with 2" brim. He had casual clothes on. I told him, "nice hat!" and his wife answered, "I been trying to get him to quit wearing it." I told him I had a couple at home and to keep wearing is since they're making a come back! I can imagine his dear wife thinking how my encouragement will not help her cause at all.:)

Sounds like my wife. I just cant work out why someone would try to get someone to quit wearing something like that. Alien concept to me. Its like me saying to my wife, I dont like trousers on women, stop wearing them. How silly would that be? So how silly was the woman at the Doctors. What kind of a cause is she working at?

Most people in Texas know not to mess with a man's hat, or even to be critical. When I lived up north it was a different story.

The usual trouble with the world. What is it now that people not only think they have the right to hold any opinion (which is good and proper) but that everyone else should agree with it!

Its not good enough for some people to think you shouldnt wear a hat, its somehow seen by them as their god given right to make sure you dont. Shame if they come off worst. Its as Ive always said, Rights are thin glass, not much to hide behind.

Great Song

Ever heard the song "This Cowboy's Hat" by Chris LeDeux?

Your right Bob that sums it up well. I've always wore either a cowbot hat or a fedora even when I was in my teens. I endured the jokes and the jabs just like the rest of us, but what I like about that song is at the end he makes his point and some sense of peace with the bikers. By making them see there jacket is just has important to them has his hat is to him. Of course when that doesn't work I have to admit I fall back on the credo from The Shootist.
