Is vintage clothing dangerous? (specifically polyester/synthetic fibers)?

Can you guys be a little less snarky? I'm not asking the question as a joke.
If you are worried about 20-30 year old polyester clothes because of the chemicals they put out, you should probably also stay away from 20-30 year old carpet, movie theater seats, upholstery, car seats, drapes, paint, etc, etc. This stuff is all around us, we can't get away from it, we are constantly breathing it and touching it. You might grow some man boobs and have a low sperm count, but hey, welcome to the club!

The are a million other things you probably come into contact with every day that are a 100 times more carcinogenic than polyester.

Also the biggest health risk most people almost completely ignore is their dietary intake? Is your daily diet a perfect combination of unprocessed lean meats, fresh vegetables and healthy fats? If not, you'd be better served putting your energy into that than worrying if a synthetic fibre you wear might be harmful in the extremely long term....just my 2 cents.

Diet!!! I'm now staying off of cows milk (except for in tea & coffee) & am eating more vegetarian food for the last six months! Meat is only featuring about 3 days a week & I've lost about 3 stone already :) Vintage jackets are now fitting a treat...

Most of the current sports dry wicking fabrics like under armour and Nike Dri-Fit are polyester, I wear them everyday at some point in the gym or Dojo. They are 1000% superior to cotton, no way I'm staying away from them, no all polyester is created equal ;)

Well, I think in the grand scheme of things, you'd be among the very few and quite fortunate, to be killed BY wearing a polyester shirt. However, you may be killed FOR wearing a polyester shirt. :)

I'm kidding but really, if you're scared of a shirt you should stay home, lock the doors and just Netflix.

All comedy aside, when I was in high school in the '70s, we were specifically warned against wearing synthetic garments when working with fuming acids in the chemistry lab -- supposedly the fumes could melt the fabrics. Polyester and nylon were specifically mentioned. So if one does choose to wear a polyester shirt, don't decide to mess around with nitric or sulphuric acid.
