Pretty much any specialist denim repair shop like Denim Therapy will charge less than that, never mind your local tailor (though they likely can’t do chain stitched hems). As nice as the Unsung guys seem, their boot repair prices are pretty high too, but that seems to be the general trend.

Haha, that´s a good comparison.

My barber charges EUR 18. My tailor does a hem for EUR 15. It´s not a chain-stitch, but I really don´t care.

Unlike my wife says, it appears that I am pretty easy to please...
Get yourself a wife like mine. She makes all of her clothes and most of mine too. It's not a cheap hobby mind. A purpose built cabin cost me a good few shekels:

Then she needs the specialist sewing machines: The first has a free arm for sleeves and trouser legs the last one is called an overlocker. Look down the side seam of a pair of jeans for an example of an overlocker's work.

The last photo is that of some friends getting married. Second time for both. The bride didn't want a full bridal gown. My missus made the ballgown type dress that you see. The groom only had white trousers to go with his formal jacket, my talented lady made him a pair in black. She's quite a talent is my lady. What do you think she does for a living? She's a paramedic in the ambulance service.

^^^That is about the price I pay for hemming and simple alterations and repairs, from my neighbourhood dry cleaning ladies. But they are old and they've been around for very long time. If a younger person is just starting to do this, and trying to make a livable wage with the current market rent, they probably have to charge a lot more.

These prices are very fair. Since everything became laughably expensive, every good tailor should be earning 10x as much as this is the kind of service that is basically without an alternative - You either gonna pay a tailor to fix your clothes or you'll throw it away.
Just that I personally wouldn't ever drop that much money into repairing something as basic and easily replaceable as a pair of jeans.
