Is this a good buy?

Hello everyone, thank you for allowing me to join the forums! Very excited to share pieces that I own, have very few vintage leather goods and just purchased another one recently. Wanted to know what you guys think! Here it is:
Used OakBrook Bomber made from lamb skin, size 38. Very few minor tears on the sleeve that I don’t mind.
This is , if I’m correct, the oldest jacket I will own once it arrives. But if anyone has more information regarding the brand and quality I am all ears! Thank you in advance!

Welcome. Lambskin is one of the weakest leathers and does not age well. As you can see from shredding on the sleeve. I would stay away from vintage lambskin, cabretta, and similar fragile leathers. Steer, goat, and horse are much more robust.

I will agree to that, I only own one lamb skin before this one from a retail store that I purchased a few years ago and wasn’t fond of it. In fact I rarely wear it due to the fragile nature of it, all my other jackets are steerhide.

You didn’t get ripped off, but similar jackets (G-1) in goat are much sturdier and commonly available. This Oakbrook tag looks 70s-80s to me. If you do end up returning it, I’d look for an LL Bean version- I’ve read good reviews on the older ones with size tags in numbers.

My first leather jacket was the LL Bean flight jacket purchased in 1984. It’s had a few knit and zipper replacements but it’s in relatively great shape. You can pick them up for around $100 or less on eBay.

I think this is the wrong 'oakbrook'. The oakbrooks often referenced have this tag:

These were jackets made by sears in the 60s and are pretty decent. However I think general consensus is the best sears jackets were made in the 30s-50s with the hercules label (idk though I've never handled a hercules )

For the price you did ok. It is a good starting jacket that you can use and perhaps repair. The first easy repair if your arm length needs it, is the cuff. Some tailors will try to charge you $70-100 for it. You can do it yourself. Save the leather because it could be used for future repairs. For the leather pealing, use glue. It works great. Make sure that use a damp rag to clean the glue residue that squeezes out from the damaged area. Personally, I do like lamb/cape skin leathers. A good cleaning will improve its looks. Those 80's jackets are cool. Back in the day, everyone had one after the movie top gun.

Update:
Received the jacket and everyone was correct. Worst purchase i have ever made.
Jacket is definitely not “vintage” as it stated in the ad. It looks as it was distressed from factory with few minor tears to complete the look I’m assuming. I should’ve asked here first, atleast it was less than $40. I am definitely looking into the recommendations listed , found an L.L bean with real Sherpa collar but still searching. Thank you all again for the help! I’ll post an update here when I find another jacket. Now gotta find a way to sell this or give away.

Give it to Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. You will find a much better jacket.

Do you mind sharing a pic with all of us? I’m considering completing the purchase of the one I found after your suggestion. Looks like it’s in great condition considering It’s an 80’s jacket. I’ll post pictures of it asap to get everyone’s feedback.

Here’s some photos. The knit has been replaced by Lost Worlds. The zipper is crap but it works. I love this jacket. Super comfortable.
